While it's always great to have more choice in the marketplace, I have no idea where Nissan is going as a company (at least in Canada - the Micra probably makes a lot more sense overseas).  I can't imagine this vehicle will do anything except cannibalize sales from the Versa.

I'm sure the Nissan Canada execs are happy to have this vehicle - but they've already got a solid (though certainly not spectacular) small car lineup in Canada (Versa, Sentra, and throw in the Cube and Juke too).  I bet they'd be a hell of a lot happier getting a new/refreshed Titan, Frontier, Xterra, Armada...vehicles with actual profit margins, that used to sell in decent numbers in Canada - nearly a decade ago, when they were actually class competitive!

Agreed, in such a small market as Canada this move is illogical.

This is like a Versa for people who have taste....or eyesight. What a great looking little car, heres hoping it will make the Versa obsolete and I wont have to look at those eyesores anymore.
Lighten up Francis.....

Maybe.  Or maybe they are smart enough to go for a growing market instead of a mature or fading market.  All depends on what the gas prices do as the market recovers more and more.

And there's a reason why it's being shown in Quebec.

I loved my old Micra. Fun little car. I don't see a compelling reason to buy this one over say a Mazda 2 though. Perhaps price if it were cheap enough.

Which is?  Why would it be more suited to Quebec?

Quebec loves small cars, and also manual transmissions (relatively speaking)

Really?  NA total sales 130k, for comparison sake Yaris 29k.

The Micra will not be sold in the US where they sold 117k Versa, Canadian market, why should they care they will sell one or the other.

Small cars are fairly popular in BC as are manuals.  Dispite the 3% number I hear tossed around nationwide I'd say it's around 30% for cars that offer manuals.

My daughter and her husband bought a Micra as their first car and they loved it. In Quebec I believe many cars were sold when it was around. Yes people in Quebec love their small cars and manual trannies. :)

If that's becomes Nissan's market, the $500 gross metal, then it gonna be a long drive between dealers.

sell?... he's thinking more it will no longer be able to afford to keep the doors open!

and pj, i think manuals are more popular in BC, but 30% is stretching it. only 64% (or something close) of production models *offer* a manual. if every car that offered manual sold 100% manuals, going by current sales across canada, we would be right about 40%.

maybe on cars that are offered, there is a 30% take rate. but that's not what the 3-6% number is about.
