oh yeah, no problem! we'll all have different opinions on things.

but.. she didn't follow the instructions. on the drop off box it said she is still responsible... she is saying she isn't. direct opposite of what the instructions tell her.

also, we don't know how she left it. in the correct parking spot, locked up, whatever.... we also don't know if the rental place has zero security, is in a crappy area and has shoddy lighting.

so i don't mean to say it is all the lady's issue or all the rental... in fact that's the opposite... i feel that it's a little bit of everybody's fault... much like everything in the world. i just felt like other than steve, everyone was saying the lady was 100% right and had done everything she could.

From this news video, she followed all of Enterprise's instructions........parked the car by the front door under a light, armed the car's alarm, locked the doors, and left the keys in the drop box.  What more exactly could she of done to drop off the vehicle on the day it was due back?

that video was a little more clear than the two things i've read.

does seem that she has done all she could. enterprise probably kept themselves on the hook by telling her to return it sunday. wonder if now they'll start saying no drop offs during non-business hours. it still doesn't change that the drop box says "vehicles returned after-hours are the responsibility of the renter until inspected or on the next business day", though...

i would imagine as others have said, a little sign isn't quite going to win a court case... but she probably did sign a bunch of stuff saying something similar that might keep her on the hook. not saying its right or fair... just that you can't always expect fairness to win out over business practices, rules and paperwork. sucks of course... but just sayin.

i would think this will change some of the policies of rental companies... or at least their security.

I don't get this at all.  Does Enterprise not have insurance for theft of THEIR property ON THEIR property?  It's not damage, the car was stolen from their lot.  IMO it doesn't matter what any contract says, the keys where in their possession in that box.  Who would be paying for the other 10 cars on the lot if they got stolen?

They would never win in court.

Oh and the car isn't worth 47k it's a used rental lol

I dig how social media will pressure these clowns into eating the $47k.

Some companies are still too stupid to realize that. The Internet is littered with examples of companies that shot themselves in the foot via social media

Hair is a wonderful thing, I'm disappointed that the era of airbrushed porn has led to everyone shaving.

I haven't rented a car in years BUT -

I wouldn't return it until there was an employee to sign off.
If I had to return it on a Sunday I would opt for their insurance addon to cover everything.

My question is who had the extra keys made? Was it towed away and the alarm shut off when the front end was hoisted?

Was it an employee? Was it her?

With photoshop - pictures mean nothing.

As far as facebook - which rental company doesn't have a list of complaints online? And who will remember?

Somebody's insurance will cover it one way or the other. Maybe 50/50?

If she returned it, she should be off the hook.  Especially if they have the keys.  This is complete BS on Enterprises part.  Otherwise, rental companies should not allow for returns after hours.  They should also consider having more secure lots.

I guess I will avoid Enterprise if this is their business policy.

I realize that news items pop up on the forum automatically but there's no point in having two threads so if anyone wants to comment......

Based on that top she was wearing, that most useless reporter could have at least asked who she was cruising the black top with.  Fan mail must be pouring in now.   :rofl2:

The $150. service fee is a nice touch.  :rofl2:

And nice job by the cops, calling her.  Put a lot of effort into it.

The lady got cheap.  She probably drives an ordinary car at best.  Her rate of insurance will not be enough to cover a Mustang GT plus tax.  If you rent for 2 days why not pay $40. for all perils insurance.  ::)

My question is who had the extra keys made? Was it towed away and the alarm shut off when the front end was hoisted?

Was it an employee? Was it her?

This is the guts of it.  I think the reporters involved should be banned from the business for life.  Could not someone ask about a security camera ???    The fact that it was stolen seems so incidental to both her and the media.

The only thing that is gonna save this lady is that she is packing a great set.   If it ever gets to court the Judge is gonna take one look at those and say ... case dismissed.
