Dude, they were trying to design a new Mustang, not a new Probe.  :P

I like my cars in 2014 to look like they were designed in 2014....not some 60s/2000s mish-mash.

Ok, but in the pony car segment, retro styling is the norm so it's appropriate.

And actually, I find that this new Mustang is a lot less retro than the '05-'14 models.

That styling norm only became the norm in 2005......Prior to that, there was little to no retro.

There was also little to no pony car market. :P Aside from the Mustang, of course...which was retro in the sense that it reminded me of the '80s models in more ways than one.  ;)

I think it looks…alright. I thought (and hoped) Ford was going to be a little more ambitious.

I had hoped that as well.  To me, this is more of an evolution of the current style as opposed to something completely new.  At this point, I'm in the disappointed camp as well.  I'll wait to see it in person though.

Unless there's a dramatic difference I soooo disappointed.

What could have been......

i think i actually agree with rrocket here. it looks okay, but compared to the concept it's a letdown, and there's some awkwardness around the nose and rear deck that comes out in certain angles - that confusion between modern and retro.

however, not as bad a letdown as the WRX - i think the gap in aesthetic appeal between concept and production was much more extreme IMO.
Do I contradict myself?

I agree that the styling in the concept looks much better but I think the model released tomorrow will be fine as well if the leaked pics are accurate. And as JV says not as shocking of a departure as the WRX form its concept. I will wait for NAIAS to make final judgement.

From those pictures, I'm on the fence as well.  Looks like they held back their styling punches a bit.  The change from 04 to 05 was much more dramatic. Hopefully it will look better live.
