Pocket rockets rule.  I need to try one of these out to see if it would pull me away from a GTI.
And, to make the heads explode of those who equate price with size,  I would take this car over a Focus ST even if they were the same price.

love this little car, drove a Focus ST and loved it, I am sure this takes the fun factor to 11.

Still prefer the Abarth to it for hooligan factor, but it is damned close. Must drive one soon to find out.

I love the fact that finally we in NA are getting the fun stuff too!
If driving an Alfa does not restore vitality to your soul, then just pass the hospital and park at the morgue to save everyone time.

Now drives a Jaaaaaaag...and thus will not pay for anything during an outing...but it is OK, because....I drive a Jaaaaaag.

In reading Peter's enthusiastic praise of it, I briefly relived my week with a Fiesta ST recently too.  It really is every bit as fun as he says it is -- absolutely and definitely one of my top three testers from this year.

Weels, I think you'd love it too -- definitely not as mature or refined as a GTI, but the Fiesta ST is just such a funny little puppy, that you can't help playing with it and laughing every time you do.

Absolutely love this car.

Bummer.  I'd heard they were going to be a pretty limited production in the grand scheme of things.  Too bad.

My week of shenanigans netted 8.1L/ 100.  Seems pretty decent to me.

HAHAHA...why?? Its a 4 banger, hot hatch, the fuel mileage should be decent-ish, but thats not the point of this car.

If it's that much of a deal breaker for you, can you add after market ones?

Not legally as they don't have certifications.  As well, the headlamp reflectors, lenses, etc aren't designed to disperse that type of light properly.

If Hyundai or Kia made a hot hatch, I doubt you would....

Nobody even mentioned fuel consumption when Jacob tested the Veloster Turbo.

http://www.autos.ca/forum/index.php/topic,85736.msg935514.html#msg935514

For the record, he got 9.7L/100km. Not bad for a turbo hatch.

Have you test driven the ST at night?  Were the headlights inadequate?

HyKia made their own problem with the fuel economy mess, as did Ford.  They both deserve all the criticism and skepticism they now receive - in my mind, not so much because their real-world fuel economy numbers aren't very impressive compared with the EPA test (true of most small turbo engines), but because these companies were so arrogant in their MPG advertising - especially when they denigrated the competition.  Now it's biting them in the ass, and they deserve it.

And although the Fiesta (and Focus ST) don't get great real-world gas mileage, they at least have the performance to compensate for it.  The Korean hot hatches have great performance on paper, but don't seem to perform nearly as well as the competitors in real-world testing.  C&D tested the turbo Forte5 SX - similar power output from its 1.6L (201HP/195TQ - in theory, vs 197/214 for the ST).  Yet the Forte5 was 7.5 sec to 60 mph, 8.3 sec from a street start, and 15.7 sec @ 89 mph in the 1/4 mile.  For a 3000 lb vehicle that supposedly has 200 HP, that's not very impressive.  Veloster turbo was a little quicker than the Forte5, but still can't catch the ST (C&D got 7.0, 7.5 and 15.2@93 mph for the ST, plus it is MUCH better handler).

Not trying to slag the Korean MNFRs here (I still love my ET! And I'd consider buying many other Korean vehicles), but they do have a tendency to overpromise on the spec sheet, but under-deliver in the real world.

"..those Recaro seats hold you in a firm and comfortable embrace, delivering an immediate connection to the car. Granted, these chairs will be pretty snug, if not unusable, for those large of frame"

So is there a delete option on the Recaros for those of us "large of frame"? Perhaps a regular sport seat...

I gotta say this car was totally off my radar - I knew it existed but did not realize it was so great. After reading Peter's review and then some others afterwards, i don't think I've seen a car get such resounding and consistent praise since maybe the intro of the GT-86/BRZ. I'll echo the sentiment that I'd prefer it in a 3-door, but it wouldn't be a deal-breaker. I think this and the Mk.7 GTI, when it gets here, will be at the top of my shopping list next year.
