Was into my local Sobeys today they had McManus Cab Sav on for 18.95 ($3.00 off regular NB Liquor pricing )  :)
Good value if you like a big, rich California style cab.

Thanks, I've never bothered to browse wine at the grocery store very much.  They add tax at the checkout, right? So maybe it's pretty close on price since ANBL is "all in"?

Good Question....I doidn't know that.........maybe it wasn't a deal.  ::)   :banghead:    ;D

Time for an update - We tried this Stave and Steel Cab tonight. This one is Bourbon Barrel aged.
Extremely smooth, rich, well balanced with a nice finish.
$19.95 at the LCBO
Railton

Just bought some of this to have with spaghetti bolognese and garlic bread. Man this wine is strong, couple of glasses and I'm done!  :rofl2:

IQ tried her first "Marquette" wine this weekend, one of the newest grapes approved by VQA.

https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://decantingontario.ca/2019/08/14/meet-marquette-the-newest-ontario-vqa-approved-varietal/amp/&ved=2ahUKEwiuzuyIyd_0AhXzj4kEHULrA6AQFnoECA0QAQ&usg=AOvVaw1apI-Yfo5cDqvQc8QaLLep

Says she wants to try a few more because she liked it.

Sorry..don't know what one it is. Can't find the bottle! Might be in recycle already!

Would any wine experts here drink a 10 year-old bottle of white Burgundy?   It was given to me as thanks for a French translation 9 years ago, but I don’t really drink much wine.  It’s been stored on its side in fairly constant temps thanks to A/C, so I’m curious.  I guess I could open it, but… just wondering.  It’s a Chateau de Chamirey 2010.

Go for it  ;D

White Burgundy's aren't know to age well. Oxidation often occurs after the 5 year mark but isn't a sure thing. The only way to know for sure is to open it and give it a try.

Thought I'd get the wine thread going again with the discussion in the "Things that Irritate You" thread.

Was never much into wine until we went to Osoyoos in 2019, then again in 2022, where we did a bunch of wine tours.  A lot of fun with a group of friends and a DD.

Anyway, Bread & Butter Pinot Noir is one of our favorites lately.  Also drank a bottle of the 19 Crimes Cab Sav the other night.  I know the stuff is overrated but thought we'd try it.  Pretty awful for the price point.  Not that its really expensive, but I've had much better cheaper $15 bottles.

Quality is never an accident; it is always the result of high intention, sincere effort, intelligent direction, and skillful execution; it represents the wise choice of many alternatives.

For those of you in the Toronto area, I order quite a few things from Small Winemakers.. These are wines not available through the LCBO at a good value point

I've had the Bread & Butter Cab & enjoyed it! Surprised you didn't enjoy the 19 Crimes, it's one of our favourites. The 19 Crimes Shiraz is great, or at least I think so.

^Well :censor: I dunno then, haha. Like a Shiraz so will give that a go sometime. Back in the day we’d buy the red blend once in a while. Picked up a bottle of cab sav and will be popping shortly. Farmhand cab sav. Will report back

Maybe our palate isn't as refined as yours

If you're into a red blend, the Apothic outta California is a good one.

This is another one of our go to's

We've just recently been able to get the Bread and Butter Cab Sav here in NB. Very nice but I think it's a little overpriced at 25.95. I find some of the other Californians in the 20-23 range to be just as good.

The Trapiche Reserve Cab from Argentina is a good budget alternative for everyday plonk at 18.95  They had a 'buy two get one free" promo on earlier this year and I picked up a few cases.

Does anyone like Georgian wine? My friend presented me with Bugeuli. I really liked it.

Hey Steve! I told you I'd photograph my dad's lifting set up for wine making.

Just a small electric hoist from Princess Auto. He leaves the glass carboys in milk crates. Then uses the hoist to move them as needed. I've also seen the milk crates resting on cheap dollies (basically a piece of wood with 4 small casters)

Hope this helps.

Tom Gore Cabernet Sauvignon on sale at ANBL until after Christmas. Buy 2 get one free. That works out to 16.66/bottle. A great deal if you like California cabs.

I picked up an order from the LCBO here yesterday, ordered these bottles thru their Vintages website under the bin ends. Looking forward to trying them as they're quite well rated. Got 2 of each.
