So let's do a Fuelly compact SUV competition:

Kia Sportage - 8.5
Mazda CX-5 - 8.5
Mitsubishi RVR - 8.8
Subaru Forester - 8.8
Honda CR-V - 9.0
Nissan Rogue - 9.0
Toyota Rav4 - 9.0
VW Tiguan - 9.4
Hyundai Tucson - 10.1
Ford Escape - 10.2

So Rogue is middle of the pack.

I know it doesn't apply to some on that list but does Fuelly distingush between AWD and FWD models?

No they dont, we do know that Kia, Hyundai, Mazda, Rogue, Rav, Ford, Honda, VW all offer either, I suspect people are probably inclined to buy awd overall.

The Fuelly results are of course pre-2014. The 2014 Rogue with the improvements and enhancements, will use, on average, 15-20% less fuel. Fuelly for 2014 (FWD and AWD combo, as Fuelly doesn't distinguish), should therefore be about 7.8. Blows the others out of the water. Like the Altima, Nissan is forcing competitors to play catch-up with fuel economy.

I think you're being a touch optimistic about that 15-20% and it's not like Nissan is having much success with its new CVTs in the Altima etc. I think they're paying the price for programming them so aggressively for economy.

I really can't see any compelling reason to assume that, comparatively speaking, the 2014 results will not reflect the improved fuel economy of the Rogue. When I purchased my AWD Juke a couple of weeks ago, I test drove the Altima. Perhaps you have a point about the CVT programming. It didn't feel as "alive" as the Juke. They both have about the same power to weight ratio.

Very very unlikely that Nissan is re-using the previous CVT tweaked for the new Rogue.  The current units in use now is the CVT7 for anything under 2.0L and the CVT8 above the 2.0L.

As for the Altima, I drove one, it's fine grampa car

Enjoy the Juke, I know I did.

So when is the road test and real world evaluation on this new CUV? This is a complete new design in one of the hottest market segments in North America, and this is all the info we get. The unveiling was in Nashville, TN, quite a while ago.
I await your complete test with anticipation.

Kind of looks similar in profile, but whole different body and engine(new Rogue has 2.5 litre, like the old one but modest tweaks). Checked the UK website, and although similar to the 2014 Qashqai, I believe the 2014 Rogue is bigger. Beneath the re-dimensioned body sits an all-new Common Module Family platform co-developed with Renault, Nissan’s corporate partner.

Qashqai is built on the Rogue platform, but it is definitely smaller.

The 2014 X-Trail (Global) and 2014 Rogue (North America) are the same.

Saw a few on the lot, did not get a look up close, but they do look darn good.

Saw a couple on the lot too. Had a look inside at the SV AWD model and even a quick test drive. Did not explore the limits in any way as it was brand new and I wouldn't want someone beating on a vehicle I was going to buy. Nice ride, and quiet. Engine settles down on the highway to around 2300 RPMs at 120Kph. Tranny(CVT) was smooth and unobtrusive.
Like to see how it stacks up against the latest CUV offerings.
