I wonder why kind of sales numbers annually GM is looking for, in order for it to be considered a success.  It will take awhile to reach the same kind of sales numbers the Tacoma gets.  The last few years the Ranger was around, it did sold decently (compared to the Colorado) in Canada vs the US, considering how dated the truck was...

I remember a few years ago, a local Ferd dealer was having a blowout on Ranger, brand new, super cab, 4x4, FX4, "full load", about $24K out the door. It was so tempting I almost bought one. I mean a 4x4 truck with any option you would ever need for under $25K is a smoking deal, the supercab was not designed for humans, but it made sense. At $40K....nope....
Lighten up Francis.....

A couple of numbers  that I like; 6' bed available with crew cab and 6700lb towing capacity.  Not quite enough towing capacity to get me out of a half ton, but it may be enough to get some to downsize.

There's times I wish my truck was 7/8ths the size, and I'd be willing to go with 7/8ths the towing capacity if that was the case.

Hard to find in between, sounds like with a midsize truck and V6 the max is around 6,700lbs (Tacoma 6500), and with a full size truck they start at 8000lbs...

Not sure what your looking for?  7500lbs?

When do we see the GMC version?

So far I like what I see. These small trucks can get stupid with pricing though, they are not huge volume movers like the big trucks and they don't usually come with $8000 on the hood at year end sales.

My goodness, a new F-150 has serious rebates and incentives right now, It's no wonder they sell so many, even considering it's by far the most dated looking full sizer out there.

7/8th size, 7/8 towing capacity of what I have right now (so about 8500-9500lbs).  Right now thats not available, may never be, and I may be in the minority, but thats what I'd like.

You would think if they put in a small V8 or a bigger diesel, V8 4-4.5L/Diesel 3-3.5L, they could achieve a healthy 8K Lbs.....but that would cut even more into the 1/2 tons pie. No manufacturer would do that, most of the domestics live off their truck sales.

I have a feeling the first 3 years will do well.  As it will be a new truck, no other domestic competition, so for those Americans that want to buy American, they only have 1 choice.  All the die hards that have been waiting for new midsize will be the first, the 2nd year will have the diesel availability, so there is a following there.  The biggest test will be after the 3 years...  After the lease is up, will the customer get another? Choose the competition?  or upgrade to a full size?

Ya, I doubt it either, but that would be on my wish list.

I'm kind of surprised they aren't using the new 4.3 V6 from the Silverado/Sierra.

Using the 4.3 would have been the smart choice imo. It's a truck engine after all.

That was my initial thought, too.  But if the specs are actually correct, and this thing really is 900 lb (15 - 20%) lighter than a comparable Silverado, then the 3.6L should be just fine.  Hey, the Pentastar 3.6L seems to be OK in the Ram, and that thing is a hippo!

900lbs less weight than what the V8? the V6?  When comparing to the previous generation Colorado (the V8 weighted around 3900lbs), the new Silverado weights an average of 5000lbs, so I don't see mass weight savings?  It may be longer and have more room, but it's not lighter?

The 3.6L in the Chevrolet Traverse that weights 4800lbs, is adequate, so it should be good in the 4000lbs Colorado.  Hopefully the transmission gearing is better in the Colorado, than in the Traverse, which makes it feel slow because of early upshifts.

Reports from C&D just say "900 lb less" than a Silverado they tested - so yeah, if it was a 4WD crew cab Silverado with 5.3L, it wouldn't exactly be light.  But the Silverado is substantially lighter than comparably-equipped F150 and (especially) RAM trucks - so hopefully the Colorado will be in the 4000 - 4200 lb range.  I'd think a 2WD extended cab Colorado will easily be < 4000 lbs, but a 4WD crew cab with 6" bed and 3.6L (or 2.8 diesel) might creep up to 5000 lbs.

As for the 3.6L, besides the transmission calibration, I wonder if multiple axle ratios will be available?  If there's a big spread between ratios there might be a substantial impact on how lively the engine feels.

that was obvious a 5ft box.  My friend has to have the tailgate down on his Ridgeline to have the bikes inside without needing to remove the front wheels.

That's why I wanted the 6ft box

They don't want to promote a truck that isn't in dealers for awhile, it's not like a few months, it's closer to 1 year.  So there job is sell Silverado's.....
