There was absolutely no incentive, over not having enough space in your garage, to buy one over a full size.

Remember Fob, you live in rural(ish) Alberta.  Space isn't an issue for you.  But if the truck doesn't fit in your garage (and you don't have room for it anywhere else) it's kind of a deal breaker.  Buddy bought a 2013 F150 XLT super cab 6.5" bed last year.  He wanted a crew cab, but absolutely needed (to him, anyway) a 6.5" bed.  But the crew cab with the 6.5" bed wouldn't fit in the parking garage where he worked - and the supercab is still tough to squeeze in there.

Just like with subcompact vs compact cars, it's easy to make the argument that the larger trucks have only a negligible (if any) price/fuel premium.  But when the vehicle is too big to fit on your property, that's a deal breaker.  Won't be an issue for most truck buyers, but it will be for some.  I'm glad to see GM back in this game - I hope it forces Nissan and Toyota to update their mid-sizers.

True, Ive never known anyone to buy a vehicle with a measuring tape. My truck will not fit in my garage, if I bury the front bumper into the drywall, Ill still have the rear bumper sticking out.
Lighten up Francis.....

Well obviously you need a bigger garage, not a smaller truck.  ;)

I used to have to make sure I removed the hitch on the Dodge to fit in the garage. Even at that I had to be kissing the drywall. My 3/4 ton Sierra crew cabs (like yours) with 6.5 foot box were a no-go.

I didn't really want to park the Dodge in the garage except that at -35 the Cummins could be a little fussy about starting.

I've been happy with the size of my Taco, easy to park and great for city driving. I've ordered a new full size truck though. A few negatives for the smaller truck I've found, Fuel economy sucks, can't tow much, and a bit cramped inside when you have kids to haul around.

There's a limited market for the smaller trucks. A small Diesel is key to success in this segment.

Thats a good looking truck....lets see what GM does with it, gives it a fighting chance or kills it before it hits the dealerships.

It seems they hired some good designers here, so there is hope it will be priced to sell...

Well yeah, the Colorado/Canyon were not exactly attractive and priced beyond ridiculously....hopefully they learned.

There are a couple of Ram owners in my condo. One parks next to me. Very annoying. He parks so far back that he blocks the pedestrian walkway, forcing me to squeeze between the bumper and column. I don't have the heart to check if I've scratched it.

There's also an H2 Hummer owned by a BC Lions player who lives in my condo. I don't watch enough CFL to know who he is. He has 4" and about 80 lb on me that's all I know.

This new truck looks great! I was skeptical that they would actually offer a diesel but it's great to see that one is really coming.

2.5L 193hp and 184lb-ft
3.6L 302hp and 270lb-ft
2.8L diesel 200hp and 368lb-ft

900lbs lighter than a Silverado.

That sounds pretty positive.
On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.

Wow, those all sounds really great....now, how much?? I betcha that diesel will get decent mileage but if it costs $5K more than a 1/2 ton with a 5.3...it wouldnt be worth it.

Fuel economy and after-incentive pricing will be key.

I have a full size truck not because I particularly need one but rather because the price points and fuel economy of the mid-size offerings do nothing to entice me.

I'm doubtful that the pricing will be particularly attractive (at first) - this is GM, after all.  I expect the pricing to be, ahem, optimistic - until the rebates kick in.  Prove me wrong, GM.

But the truck itself looks great.  6700 lb max towing (but don't think that's SAE-tested), and maybe more when the diesel is introduced? (though even if the engine is capable of it, I doubt the chassis could handle much more than that).  ANd a choice of 5 or 6 foot bed with the crew cab - hopefully that will be available for all trims (not like the Frontier, where depending on the trim you get stuck with either the 5 or 6 foot bed, but no choice).

No idea if they'll sell…actually I'm a little sceptical for the reasons stated above (price parody with full-size trucks mostly) but, after owning a Ridgeline for a few years now I do think these mid-sized crew cab trucks fill a great niche for folks who want a light duty 'truck' that's well suited for daily urban/suburban life. Excellent versatility…you may need to live with one to believe it though if you're set on full-size like I was.

That's the thing. The diesel engine premium that will pay off half a million KM later will be a tough sell. With all that extra torque compared to the I4 gas, will it be faster to 60 when it weighs an extra 300lb or so? Towing or driving with a manual tranny is a different story.

They have to make this thing really cheap like manual tranny, floor shifter 4x4, manual hubs, vinyl floors, vinyl bench seats (did I just hear Rupert purrrr), roll up windows and an AM radio cheap to make it worthwhile. Unless they bring the price of this way down, it will be DOA. I couldnt justify spending more on a truck thats got less interior space, can haul, pull and has less power just so I can lose a foot of length...if that.
