Cool,  Congrats.  Is it new?  By chance, is what you paid what it was advertised at?

Yes new. We paid the marked down price of $19,999 and only taxes and levies on top. The MSRP was $26,995.

Congrats.  About the size I am looking at 21' - 26'.  On my list, has to have U shaped dinette and bunks.

You'll need a slide out for that configuration, look at the 24BHS GBA posted a few pages ago.

I have no issues with slideouts.

Slideouts are nice, but they add a lot of weight.  That can be an issue depending on the size of trailer, and the vehicle you are towing with.

For example, my brother tows a 22' travel trailer with no slide with his 4-Runner.  If it had a slide, he'd be overweight.  That's one major reason I went 1/2 ton over a different type of vehicle, so that I wouldn't be limited like that.  Granted, I'm not going to be pulling a 33' fifth-wheel behemoth, but my truck is capable enough to handle a 27' travel trailer with a slide.

Congrats!  Happy camping!  You're in AB right?  I mean Alberta...not "in AB" - that would be gross... :P ::)

Check out Kinbasket Lake...not like there aren't a ton of nice places I'm sure, but it's a beaut.  Scenery is...what am I talking about...being a flatlander, all of BC/AB's mountainous region scenery is gorgeous, can't go wrong.  If our trailer wasn't such a pig I'd be tempted to haul it out there like the last one.

I would never hook up with someone who rotates balancing dampers and measures airflow for a living. Haha. Yes I'm in Alberta right now. Close enough to the mountains I guess.

I checked out Kinbasket, looks beautiful. Seems there's a free forestry run camp site there.

Congrats.  About the size I am looking at 21' - 26'.  On my list, has to have U shaped dinette and bunks.

Here's the one GBA posted:
https://www.gnrcw.com/inv/2019-Forest-River-Northern-Spirit-2454BH-NS009/#mainpic

Here's one from Primetime/Forest River (same manufacturer as mine), if the one GBA posted is out of your price range:
https://www.arrkannrv.com/rv/2019-FOREST-RIVER-AVENGER-24-BHS-9150

Here are a few that caught my eye at the RV show.  Mainly looking at Rockwood Ultralite, Jayco, Keystone, and Star Craft.  Little big bigger than my parameters, but I am still looking.  Decent deals on the 2018s.

The place with the CPR mainline running through the middle?   :rofl2: You can do much better than that.

Right, and I would be towing with a truck...

I think someone may have mentioned this, but is it practical to rent a 1/5 tonne pick up and trailer? I wouldn't mind trying out this as a summer vacation. Other thought would be to add a hitch to the Odyssey rent a pop up. I like the idea of leaving the trailer and having the freedom to move around, as opposed to renting a large RV. thoughts?
I love it when a plan comes together.

IIRC rental agencies have restrictions/prohibitions on towing.

I second the pop-up idea.  The fact that they are van towable means you are saving a fair chunk of money by not renting a 1/2 ton.  You'll also burn about half the fuel you would towing a large trailer with a truck.  Something to keep in mind.

They are not as convenient or comfortable as larger trailers, so that is a drawback to keep in mind.  If your summer vacation involves a couple hour drive to a campground where you'll set up and stay for 2 weeks, then a larger travel trailer is ideal.  If, however, your plan is to drive a few thousand kms and hit many different campsites over the course of a single trip, then the pop-up will be a lot less stressful to tow, and will save you a ton of money on fuel.

It seems like there's always somebody renting out a pop-up on Kijiji in every major city.

When we were in Banff and Jasper, we saw a lot of people in rented Class C Motorhomes using them as vehicles to get to all the different sights in the parks.  We would see them at all the sight parking lots during the day, then they would pull in to their campsite at the end of the night, make dinner and sleep, then off to the sites again the next day.

These things:

rent a pop up for a week.  See how you like it.  If you like it, there is quite the selection of sizes and configurations to choose from.

I added a hitch and brake controller to your old Odyssey.  About $800.

I rented a pop-up last year from Kijiji.  It was nothing special but it worked fine.  It was $400 for 9 days.  We just parked it at the cottage so we could have extra sleeping quarters.   It would be fine camping for a week if the weather was nice.  But, if you were stuck in it in the rain, it would be the suck.

I would rather be in my pop up trailer when it rains vs a tent!

You can haul this with the 335i....

https://www.bowlusroadchief.com/

The all-alunimum riveted travel trailer from Bowlus is returning after an 80-year hiatus. The Bowlus Road Chief weighs less than 2,000 pounds and, according to the company, can be towed by a Fiat 500.

Looks nice, but they seem heavy on the rules. Most of them make sense but some of them are meh. "Most campgrounds are along train tracks and highways" I disagree.

Very tiny, I'd rather pick up a Roulette Prolite out of Quebec, my brother has one that sleeps 4 with a full bathroom and kitchen that he tows with his 4 cylinder Venza.

My first choice would be the Keystone Hideout, second would be the Jayco Jay Flight SLX 242BHS. The bigger Jay Flights don't have an outdoor kitchen for whatever odd reason -- maybe because of the outdoor access washrooms which I really don't think is necessary but hey different strokes different folks.

Thanks fellas. Idea is to take two weeks off and drive out east. We’re thinking of going back to PEI and renting a house on the water for a week. The other week we would drive and stay at various campsites, see Cabot trail, etc. There’s five of us plus dog!

I like the idea of pulling with the 335... put some km on it lol

Oh hell yeah!  Try $137K USD for the little one, over $200k for the bigger units.  Hence the grin.
