^^ We went camping in Dinosaur Provincial Park a few years ago. Yeah, it was pretty barren there too. We were sitting at the picnic table when my wife and I looked at each other and said “What’s that noise?”  ???

Walked 15 feet to the edge of the campsite and found a rattlesnake nest. Uh, ok, better put the dog in the trailer.

It was a neat experience, but we haven’t gone back. Provincial park, so no dirt biking.  ;D

Awesome. I have to get back to Moab. Perhaps with the new 500.

Not exactly travel trailer related.  But kinda of cool camping accessory.  Portable Stackable cot at Costco.

Did we have another travel trailer thread? I thought I saw one recently but couldn't find it.

I think we're buying an RV but we're still working on the deal. It's 4,600 lb dry and 7,500 gross so I think I'm stuck with my big blue gas guzzler. My Sequoia only has a tow rating of 6,500 lb so wonder if that's going to be an issue? I don't see us carrying 2,900 lb of stuff in the trailer and the water tanks will be empty. My brother bought a Prolite Profil 14 last year with a GVWR of 3,000 lb and the dealer almost didn't let him take it home with his Venza 4-cylinder with a tow rating of 2,500 lb, even though the trailer has a dry weight of 1,595 lb.

Congrats.  Just watch what you pack, and take the rig to a scale when fully loaded just to check and make sure you're legal.

Invest in a good weight distributing hitch.

Did the math on that; 2900 CCC.  :o    That is very unusual to have that much CCC on 4600 UVW.

RV or trailer?  Aren’t they different things?

A trailer (in the camping sense of the word) is an RV, but an RV doesn't have to be a trailer.

I always thought trailers were something you towed, whereas RVs were something you drove.

You're thinking of 'motorhome', which is a type of Recreational Vehicle.

I guess it's a personal classification I guess.  I grew up with various trailers, 5th wheels, class a and c motorhomes and that's how we always classified things.  YMMV of course.

That’s my understanding. A trailer isn’t considered a vehicle, normally.

Everyone is right, technically.

They all fall under the "RV" umbrella.

Then are divided into RV "motorcoaches" or RV "trailers".  And then all the dividing within those classes.

I'm no expert...but I did see a special on HGTV about "RVs" and that's what they said.   :)

To me an RV is self propelled.  But that can apply to an ATV.  ;D

What will get tricky is staying within the payload capacity (people, cargo and tongue weight) of the tow vehicle. You will have about 500lbs of tongue weight. What is the GVWR and curb weight of the Tow vehicle? Difference  is your payload

Yea, I read up on Province of Alberta’s Recreational Vehicle Towing Guide and they noted that  either the GVWR, GAWR, nor GCWR should be exceeded. Most older vehicles only have GVWR and GAWR. A weight distribution hitch will certainly help.

So from your pic and the interwebs.

GVWR: 6 587 lbs
Curb Weight:5295 lbs

Total Payload:  1292 lbs.

600lbs of tongue weight  gives you about 800 lbs for people and their stuff loaded into the tow vehicle. Looks to be reasonable as long as you are not hauling 4x 200lb men.

Yeah, You would have to load most of the camping equipment (food, clothes, activites, etc.)  into the trailer, which would help you with regards to Gross Axle Weight on the tow vehicle.

Like I said before, truck scales are your friend.  Every highway truck scale will let you weigh your truck and individual axles.  I would put your whole family into the Sequoia, as well as any cargo that may be loaded into the truck on a road trip, then take it to a scale and weigh each axle.  That will tell you how much reserve you have to be used for tongue weight, as well as how much GCWR you have left over for Gross Trailer Weight.

Or don't take it to a scale and just go camping.  Of course AB/BC may be pickier...doubt anyone here's ever been stopped unless they were WAY overloaded, I've seen minivans towing 24'ers if not bigger.  Also no mountains here, you could probably tow a camper with a Grom...

As far as what the Sequoia can handle...if Rev's 80 yr old Suburban with it's miserly 145 hp 350 can tow it (I'm sure it's rated as high if not higher than the 'yota) then sure as hell the Sequoia can tow it.  Just don't look.  Blue Ox is your friend when it comes to tow bars...costly, but damn worth it compared to a cheaper $500 unit.  Nary a sway and my wife is happy - big factor if yours gets sea-sick taking a prairie curve at 110 kmh.  :P
