X5 packs big presence and class ' but skip the M Sport package if you're hitting the camp trail.

A bit odd to test a vehicle which has been out of production for 3-4 months.

out of production doesn't mean people aren't still looking for one, and wanting information. Im sure BMW dealers are probably clearing these out for the new one

I agree.  That's a pretty darn good mileage for an engine with that much power hauling around a heavy load.

i remember X5 having one of the worst reliability ratings from BMW range, and a lot of snob bimmerphiles blamed it on south carolina plant where this is assembled.

I wonder if/how that changed at all thru out it's stay in production?

Driving thrills makes my wallet lighter.. and therefore makes me faster because i'm shedding weight... :D

A great looking, relatively efficient and dynamic SUV......only problem, not very reliable at all. Friends of our had one of those, it was a CPO 2007 unit that was a year old when they bought it. A mountain of electrical issues and then with slightly over 100K km, the V8 started to sound and smoke like a 1970s agricultural diesel. Nice enough car, no thank you.
Lighten up Francis.....

A well done vehicle and a necessary step on the 3-series, 5-series, SUV ladder that BMW has a lock on. Reliability shmeliability, the roundel hypnotizes people who stare at it too much...

Yea, but this site is supposed to be about auto news, and there are likely thousands of existing articles all over the web about the outgoing X5. A six-year-old design doesn't really fall into the category of news and this piece doesn't add anything new to the party. Also, the author really should highlight clearly in the review that the replacement model is already hitting showrooms. Not doing so makes this piece feel like nothing more than an assist for BMW dealers looking to clear out inventory.

Pretty much an oxymoron you wrote here.

How is a vehicle "well done" yet reliability should be ignored? Trust me, once you're stranded on the roadside, "well done" becomes something closer to what's left in the toilet.

The CR demographic don't seem to buy many of these. Older ones don't hold up. Maybe newer ones are better. I wouldn't bank on it.
On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.

Hey, I never said I ignore reliability. Well done in that it looks better than a lot of SUVs and apparently drives better too, but a lot of people buy them for reasons other than driving thrills or reliability, which was my point, and Sailor's too.
