OK, if you had $20K, what would be the fastest accelerating modified car you could build?

And it has to be able to go around corners too, so not just a drag strip car.

3-2-1 Go!

Choosing a car based on reliability is like choosing a wife based solely because she is punctual. There is more to it than that...

I'd say an Eagle Talon TSI. My brother in law was running low 12's with his 94 with not a whole lot invested. 20K would have one in the 9-10's easy and they would still corner.

No....for Talons going to 10s you need big money.  At that power level, they start breaking everything.  Axles, trannies, diffs, etc..

How fast is my 911?  Supras sh*t on on me all the time...in reverse..with blown turbos  :( ...

If you want to build it?  And go around corners?

I'd say an IS300.  Why?

1) Can be bought cheaply
2) Track record of winning road races in North America and Japan
3) Large aftermarket support
4) Proven anvil-like reliability of the 2JZ
5) Easy to add a turbo kit
6) High quality components on the car from the factory

605 HP IS300 for $20K  http://www.supraforums.com/forum/showthread.php?701352-2002-is300-turbo

Other cars that can go quickly?  Talon, as mentioned.  WRX when built properly.  Mustangs...but will needs lots of chassis upgrades for the twisties.

Corvette...C5 specifically.  Here's a 600HP one for a whole $17,000  http://www.supraforums.com/forum/showthread.php?705585-99-FRC-Corvette-600-whp-John-Reed-Tuned

Corvette C6

Katech heads/cam package for 5K. Done.

This is nice, too.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gGnIwZ8Rsmo

Which means you'd have to buy a base C6 Vette for $15K..which I don't see often.

Which is why I chose the C5...cheaper entry price.

FYI...John Reed is one of the best tuners in the USA.  He's the one who tunes those insane twin turbo Lambos.

UPDATE: I recently added a brand new Nitrous Outlet 90mm wet plate kit and Nitrous Outlet Standalone Fuel System. The kit runs on E85 and made 602whp/680wtq on a 150 shot, 650whp/720wtq on a 200 shot. The car also has a set of 325/45/17 MH drag radials on 17" C6Z style wheels. The car was tuned by John Reed of Underground Racing/JohnReedRacing. Please call or text me with serious interest/more photos.

This was Jeremy Formato's personal car (www.fasterproms.net) for almost 7 years. He modded it and tuned it. The car has almost exactly 78k miles on the chassis now. The LS2 and new T56 were installed less than 14k miles ago. I purchased it with the intent of driving it occasionally during the summer. I purchased it in January of 2013, I started a new job at the same time. I travel a lot more than I was anticipating and the car has sat (also due to the NW weather). I simply start it up and drive it around the block a couple days a week and leave the battery on a tender. I think I put around 600 miles on it? I honestly spent more time waxing it than driving it which is a shame. Was only caught in the rain twice. AC works exceptionally well and the car stays plenty cool.

It truly is a stunning looking car and drives great. The paint is near perfect with the front end getting a respray to correct for rock chips ~7k miles ago. The car will come with a full fresh fluid change front to back (literally as I type), new gasket set for the headers (they were blown out and new OEM GM gaskets are on the car), new spark plugs, and a pre-purchase inspection from PSI Motorsports (tunedbypsi.com). The car was dynoed a week ago by John Reed, he didn't adjust the tune at all just simply looked over it for the new owner. Car made ~460whp (SEE UPDATE ABOVE). It does not have the Z06 badging nor does it have the faux carbon fiber near the shifter.

RB26DETT motor is fragile at higher HP.  My friend has one.

I drove one with about 400HP....it was quick enough for me. Besides, the clutch/tranny will go way before the engine  ;D

C5 is not the nicest looking Vette.  The interior is not great.  But, it's an awesome platform for a cheap super-car.  Put my vote in the C5 camp too.

Why for you need 500 horses??? In that case, an RX7 but get rid of that horrid rotary thing under the hood.

Because he's looking for FAST.  A 400HP GT-R isn't that fast.  When my Supra was 400HP, it was only a 11.6 second car, and the GT-R was much slower still.  And 400HP doesn't cut when there are Mustangs and Camaros roaming the streets that come factory with 400+. Heck..an old C5 Z06 comes with 405.

500 or bust....for starters.

No one needs 500hp.  But, to build a really fast car, that's "entry level" power.

This would be my choice. FD3 LS, lighter than a Vette, better suspension than a Vette and can have one for less than $20K with over 500HP.
