My G37S is a keeper. Most probably will buy it at lease end. Especially that I have low miles on it.

"owners of the G37 convertible gripe about the nearly total loss of trunk space when they put the roof down."

Ummm...They couldn't figure that out on the Dealer lot BEFORE they signed on the dotted line. Hard to feel sympathy on this one...

This car used to be at the top of my wish list. Lately I've heard anecdotal stories of premature rusting on trunk lids of 2007 and later models. I'm wondering if others here have heard about (or experienced) this.

Also frequent and expensive brake pad replacement still seems to be on the menu despite improvement over the first gen. Pad replacement at 45-50 K seems a bit ridiculous given that my Sonata went 96K on the fronts, and 120K on the rears

Still like them, just a little less ardor than before.

Brake pads....really..... ::) 50K km for a set of pads on a sporty car is very reasonable. This shouldnt be an issue, especially since its something you can do at home in a few hours.

I drive an Acura TL now, but still miss the Infinitis.  The G's are quicker and handle better which equals more fun to drive.  IMHO the only advantage of the TL over the G's is fuel economy.

Does your TL have SH-AWD?

Also, I'm sure most of them are in urban areas.

Cheers,

I've been an Administrator over on G35Driver for close to ten years(although not really active much now) and I've never heard of any rusting issues with any G models let alone the 2nd Gen models.  I certainly never experienced that on my own 2 G's.  As for the brakes, the only brake issues that the G experienced was the 03 MY.  I went through a set of front brakes in roughly 20k KMs, although Infiniti issued a TSB for it and they were covered under warranty.

Rusted trunk lids? Seriously? Linky?
My Dad (dead now 7 years) used to drive his Lincoln's and Caddy's such that he could get 100k out of the brakes. Use to drive imagining that there was a glass of water on the dash and that you weren't suppose to spill any water out of the glass. :rofl2:

Thanks  for the feedback. As I said this was anecdotal stuff I had heard on the level "a friend of a friend said this about his 'G'..."

The main thing that keeps me from buying a G is that I drive for a living so I need my license !
Maybe after I retire in four years  ::)

^ Actually IIRC, the Z is about 300lbs lighter than the G Coupe.  Even the G Sedan is lighter than the Coupe.

Thought they were all about 3300-3500lbs....could be wrong though.

Just going by memory, I believe the G Coupe is in the 3600-3700lb range.

G37X Coupe (AWD) Curb Weight - Automatic (lb.) 3847

Also, just for fun...

Just an observation regarding "base" vs. "leather"... I don't think I've EVER seen an Infiniti G without leather.

This is one link of many I found. What seems to come across consistently in most links is that some rust problems only occur on some cars. For example, trunk lid rusting appears to be caused by an ill fitting trunk hitting the tail light assembly on some cars. Door skin rusting on earlier Gs appears to be more systemic than random.

Two things that do appear consistent are:
1. Nissan/Infiniti paint quality is not the best which can compromise even good sheet metal
2. Infiniti Dealers seem to be largely unwilling to deal with customer complaints about rust.Previous used reviews (ex. Altima) seem to reinforce this perception of Nissan/Infiniti "service".

I guess opinions vary on how long  brakes should last, but the brakes on my Sonata went over 100K despite not being babied at all. Just sayin'...

Agreed, not much in acceleration, but better handling in SH-AWD.

IIRC, cloth seating wasn't an available option on any G's in Canada.  It was only available for a few years in the US.

Regarding the paint on the G's, it's just relatively soft.  Fairly easy for paint imperfections to happen but also really easy to detail.  Porsche is the worst that I've encountered for soft paint.

Regarding intake and exhaust mods, it has been proven time and again that on the VQ35 and VQ37 engines that it tends to lean out the A/F ratio. The ECU tends to compensate by pulling ignition timing.  However, once dyno tuned properly with just these mods, there are some nice gains to be made without the ECU pulling time, especially at the mid range.  Can easily maintain the stock ECU and have a custom tune done if the tuner uses UpRev or ECU Tek.
