That would be the 19th century  word 'gay'  right?

1
a :  happily excited :  merry <in a gay mood>
b :  keenly alive and exuberant :  having or inducing high spirits <a bird's gay spring song>
2
a :  bright, lively <gay sunny meadows>
b :  brilliant in color
3
:  given to social pleasures; also :  licentious

All of the above look like a definition of Snowman to me....especially licentious.    ;D

i would actually debate that the cheap steel wheels corrode easier than the alloy.

i've never had a pair of alloy wheels corrode but my wife has had her steel winter wheels for 8 seasons and they now look like POS rust buckets.

I've seen more corroded alloy rims then I could count.  Looking at used cars most over ten years old have badly corroded rims even in BC where car bodies don't rust.

Steels wheels can rust too but it doesn't seem as common and is much easier to fix.  Bit of sanding and some spray paint and you're done.  Not sure how you fix corroded alloy wheels.

I'm using my old 17" alloy rims from the RX-8 for my CX-5 winter tires. These were bought from Tirerack 5 years ago.
These rims might look even better than the regular 19" CX-5 rims.

On closer inspection it looks like I might have some rust/pitting.  :(

Steelies are what the car came with stock. This is what my car looks like. Same paint, same body style, same wheel covers.

Split the difference, alloys on the front, steelies on the back. Alternately, you could do each side.  ;D

I went with the black steel rims one winter (in 2010) and promptly sold the steelies after one season.

In Edmonton, I run winter tires from early October until almost end of April.  That's over 6 months!  This season, I went with $100 cheap alloys.  Let's see how many winters these rims last.

I have done many things.

Winter tire history:

06 TSX: Dedicated aftermarket 16" alloys. Dunlop Wintersport.
07 Civic: Steelies baby. 15" Gislaved Nordfrost 5
07 Z4: Dedicated OEM 17s. Dunlop Wintersport. Car no longer gets winter use.
07 CLK: Year-round OEM 17s. Dunlop Wintersport stolen off the Z4. Only had it one winter.
11 GLK: Dedicated aftermarket 17s. Pirelli Scorpion Ice+Snow.
13 TL: Dedicated aftermarket 18s ordered. Blizzak LM60.
You can't just have your characters announce how they feel.
That makes me feel angry!

There were no steel wheels to fit my C36, so I bought some E-Class take-offs for the snow tires.

So apparently my Dad knows someone who works at the local auto recyclers. He was going to see about getting some used steelies for my winter tires. I decided to go one step further and look into getting some OEM alloys for the all-seasons, then using the stock steelies and caps for the winter tires.

This is what the car would look like with the alloys:

and for comparison, this is with the steelies and caps:

Firebird:
-Winter: OE alloys (Butt ugly) - in the market for new snow tires this year too!
-Summer: newer Z28 alloys

SLK:
-Winter: AMG Replicas
-Summer: OE alloys

Sonoma (when it was winter driven):
-Winter: OE alloys
-Summer: Polished out OE alloys (second set)

I tend to like to stick to OE rims....I've had bad luck with aftermarket stuck, whether it be steelies or otherwise. I've just found that my cars ride and feel better on the OE rims (or at least OE available rims)
