At least put caps on the black steelies.   No air leaks from alloy corrosions.

That must be an Ontario thing, I can't say I've ever had a leaky wheel due to corrosion...well, 'cept the one Taurus wheel, but whadayaknow, it came from Ontario.  Otherwise, never been an issue.  Maybe I don't keep anything long enough to find out.

It could be an Ontario thing.   We like to be salty.    YMMV, I think more washing and waxing is required for alloys if you plan to keep them long term.   The only thing I did with my winter steelies was repaint them after 10 years.

Why does everyone keep saying alloys will corrode?  Maybe over 10 years yes, but I've never seen it.  I think this is ones of things that may have been true way back when, and some people just never let go of.

Life is too short to drive around on sh!t wheels, especially for 4-5 months every year.

Drove with alloys in the winter once.  The next year they were a pitted mess.  Yes they pit and corrode in ONE winter.

But I got a set of alloys for the LX to save my OEM ones which are very nice.

??? Which brand of alloy? I have never had  issues with OEM alloy or good aftermarket wheels.

I'd like to find steelies like this for the Sebring.

I use 16 inch silver Honda CR-V steelies on the TSX. It looks like crap, and I regret it to this day.  :'(

With winter tire setups now available at most dealers people could just negotiate this into the price of the car and pay for it with the same loan increasing the monthly payments by very little.

Korean alloys....

The ones I've gotten from Tirerack have actually been made in Poland. Both sets (ML and BMW) have two winters on them now and no signs of corrosion and..........I don't think anyplace uses more salt than around here.

As long as you don't mind paying an extra grand or so for your winter tire and wheel package to start with. (My experience with both the local MB and BMW dealers  ::)  )

True. People still need to do some homework so they know what the "real" price should be.

VW  oem 16 inch alloy on our Rabbit.

corrosion.

seen 1 winter in its entire life.

may not be due to winter though..  maybe a curb rash caused oxidation.    my jetta's rims also had these corrosions.

That looks more like curb rash than corrosion.

That is where my 17" steelies came from last year @ $37/each  ;D

Black steelies with mismatched cheap of wheel covers.

In the winters here, no one looks at your wheels.

Sent from my Vic20 using Java Moose

+1....sans wheel covers.  Do my own changeover...nice and easy!  I use pam spray as well to prevent snow from packing....also works for snowblower to help with wet snow.

i would actually debate that the cheap steel wheels corrode easier than the alloy.

i've never had a pair of alloy wheels corrode but my wife has had her steel winter wheels for 8 seasons and they now look like POS rust buckets.
