So I am looking for a used sports car for my wife as either a Christmas or birthday present (a specific model). I saw what appeared to be a suitable one advertised at a dealer on the Island so took a look at on Saturday. It was listed as CPO but when I took a quick look (and that's all it took) I found both rocker panels to be rotted out just in front of the rear wheels, to the point that on the left side I could stick 3 fingers into the hole.
So what does CPO actually get you? I was surprised to see this car on a dealer lot given its condition; the paint did not reflect the 106,000 kms on the odo, and then to see the amount of rust. I would hate to see what a non-CPO vehicle would have looked like
I thought I could trust CPO but after this I am not so sure.
BTW, they were asking about 40% (almost $8,000 vs $4,500-5,500) more than what similar make/models are being advertised for privately.
