For the price of a well equipped 3, you can get a 6, and so on.
People buy the size they want, and some just want a car this size.

Base price for Mazda2 14,450
Base price for Mazda3 15,995, $1500 difference
Base price for Mazda6 24,495,  $8500 difference

The Mazda3 base price is not much more than a Mazda2 base price but the Mazda6 base price (albeit with much better equipment) is much more than a base Mazda3.
Might not make sense to get a base Mazda6 compared to a base Mazda3 for such a large price difference.

That's why I said well equipped. There is typically a fair bit of price overlap moving from class to class. It depends on the individual and their preferences.

The idea was that moving up from a base Mazda2 to base Mazda3, you get the same stuff and larger interior for only a faction more.
Going up from a base Mazda3 to Mazda6 cost a whole deal more and would be a good debate in the base Mazda6 or loaded Mazda3 category.
In regards to price it doesn't make sense to get a Mazda2 if you can get a Mazda3 for just a little more. Need more price differentiation.

Yes this works out in a Honda Fit -Honda Civic buying decision as well. In the end we went with the civic. More power, better fuel mileage . The only thing I miss from my previous Fit is the larger cargo capacity.

That is the thing for us.  The Fit is a really good carry-all ( Like the old Honda civic Wago-van or whatever it was called) and most other NA available small cars are not...because Americans don't like hatchbacks.
Even if the Civic is a better/faster car, can you get 8 large bags of garden waste in it?  Or go to Ikea?

3cu ft trunk of Miata is the best for Ikea.  Keeps you from bringing anything home...   ;D

Yes that is why I miss the Fit.It could swallow a 40 gallon water heater including the cardboard it was packaged in.With the hatch fully closed. The civic cannot.
The utility trailer will have to do.

Sarah Palin refudiates that.

I loved my old Civic wagons though.

used our ET to pick up a freezer from Costco the other day...picked up a fridge today...no, not one of those full size units, but the 24" wide "narrow" ones (the freezer is about 9 cu.ft. and i think the fridge is about 12 cu.ft (something like that)...we bought a fridge and a freezer for our basement but wanted a better mix of storage than a single unit offers (which is what we currently have).

Wow 21 cu ft is not a small fridge lol. I have a big 30" wide one in for my condo, a Samsung RB194, it was only 18 cu ft but it was huge. I wish I got a smaller fridge, it was a bit out of place.

I transported it in the Mazda 5. You have to be careful transporting fridges horizontally. You don't want to crush the coils (even if not exposed) and you want to leave it up right and not running for at least 24 hours to ensure the oil gets back down to the compressor before starting it up.

I think there is a typo, 12 cubic feet was stated, not 21.  12 is below average, usually a spare fridge, of course bigger than a bar fridge.

Oh whoops I thought you meant the fridge/freezer has a 12 cu ft fridge component and a 9 cu ft freezer component. That's a huge freezer. lol.

the fridge and freezer look like "bar fridges", but similar to stacking two together (one on top of the other)...one is freezer only, the other is fridge only...our current fridge seems to be leaking water inside (likely an evaporator is shot or something), so we need to replace it, but the standard units don't give us the ideal mix of fridge/freezer....most freezers are only 4-6 cu/ft when combined with a fridge...this way, we get two separate "side-by-side" units at a somewhat reasonable price...i think our current fridge/freezer unit is about 18 cu.ft. total...our new set up gives us more freezer, but less fridge, which is fine as we only use the fridge part for beverages anyway...we shop at Costco weekly, so having the extra freezer space is important. ;D

no, they are separate units.

this is what we bought, both of which were easily swallowed up into the ET (one at a time of course):

Makes sense! 24" wide fridges aren't really big at all, but for most apartments that all you can fit. I'm lucky my condo built in the 70s was meant to accommodate a 30" wide fridge.

I have a little Danby 3.3 cu ft chest freezer. Not terribly big but it'll hold a Costco trip of meat. Only costs $20 a year to run too.

yea, i wouldn't have one as a main fridge, but it's great to store beverages in (holds a LOT more than a standard "bar fridge", even though that's how we are using it)...we got the upright freezer because i find the space is more utilized and easier to get at stuff (you tend to bury things in a chest freezer).

Makes sense. Sucks having to dig in for that old freezer burned item at the bottom.

Or go to Ikea?

3cu ft trunk of Miata is the best for Ikea.  Keeps you from bringing anything home...   ;D

You need a trailer for your Miata.  :P

Roof rack might not work too well.
