Larger and decidedly more sports coupe-looking than its predecessor, the 2014 Volkswagen Beetle GSR still has the traits that made the original car popular.

Mrs. Apok's parents just recently bought a Super Beetle. I got the chance to take it for a spin down some windy coastal roads and it was a blast.

I will say the interior is a bit on the cheaper side considering its cost, but I had no qualms with the way it drove. I found the auto a bit sluggish in manual mode but it performed pretty well in sport

Egads.  Take this back to Germany (or is it Mexico?) and start sending over some Sciroccos!

A true manual would be more fun.  I noticed too there is some cost cutting in the interior on my test drive of the Super Beetle.

My neighbour's son's girlfriend has a late 90's vintage "new" Beetle.  She comes over a lot so he can fix it.  (He borrows my code reader a LOT)  One day he said to me "next girl I date drives a Corolla."

Anyway, so there's a purple Beetle around a lot.  I figured my daughter would go ga-ga over it. She said she didn't like them, and explained her "wish list" vehicle:

A 1989-ish style Toyota 4x4 pick up, lifted with 33" tires and a manual transmission.

Really?  Huh?  Why?

"Because no one expects a girl to have one, so that makes it super cool.  With a stick, none of my friends will want to drive it.  And it will get to crazy remote trailheads."

So, maybe the Beetle isn't a "girls car" anymore...

By the sounds of it, your daughter is hardly the run-of-the-mill girl.

It might be a western thing. Our 11 year old hasn't shut up about getting a pickup since we moved out here.

I was talking with one of our 20 year olds at the office about whether women found men with performance cars attractive. It came up in conversation after we had the thread on here and I wondered what her take on it was. She said no, she found they were more often than not self-obsessed. She said the one vehicle she'd put in the "plus" column was an older farm pickup. Men who drive them are more down to earth.

Edit- I got her comment mixed up with that of her co-worker. Her older co-worker was not down with the bro-trucks, the 20 something was ok with them. Neither were impressed with sports cars.

On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.

Does it still come with BIODEGRADABLE PARTS?
You know; the type that leave you stranded on the side of the road?

For an example of what i'm talking about, check out this video about the horrendous quality of VW water pumps:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2JWnQ_xCpgE

Watch the video where a professional mechanic talks about the horrible quality of Volkswagen water pumps.

He says:  “no wonder these things blow out at 40,000 miles. Good thing I drive a Miata, forget this JUNK !”

So, he’s calling Volkswagen parts “JUNK”, right on the video.
