It’s the second “OH :censor:” brake pedal! Lol.

Has anyone else accidentally put a second foot on the brake pedal in an automatic before? The first experience pretty much guarantees you learn never to do it again.

Manuals were available in both trim levels from 2006 all the way to the final production in 2017. For 2014, you couldn’t get the GT luxury package with a manual transmission, then in 2015 they made the luxury package standard in the GT trim and all was right again.

The problem with the rear shocks is that it’s the exact same shocks as the Mazda 3 which is 500 lb lighter. On top of that, the 5 has a max payload of almost 1200 lb vs. 850 lb on the 3. Guess where most of that extra curb and payload weight is going? I think the only thing different is the heavier rear spring rate. Oh well, it’s 30 minutes a side with hand tools from past experience, and I just bought an impact driver.

Yes I did. Oh I loved that Matrix and probably would’ve kept it forever if we didn’t move away. It would’ve needed a new catylitic converter and body work on the rear quarter to pass inspection here. I sold it for a couple hundred more than I bought it for.

Great deal! Love seeing these clean Okanagan cars, plenty of P5 Protege's running around rust free....something you don't see elsewhere.

Yeah, $1500 for a Mazda5 with minimal rust, and all it needs is a good deep clean?

It makes me feel like I got hosed on my Civic.  So, Thanks for that, DKAZ!!!!

That's OK though GBA...nothing in MB goes for $1500...everyone's Civic/Mazda/Corolla is worth at least half what a new one is even if it's old and rusty or just old.  Or a Fusion.

Great find DKAZ.  You should easily double your money...if not, bring it here, could probably triple it.

It's true.  As long as it'll pass a MB safety (not that hard), a car like that (after it's been cleaned) would go for $4k

It's funny how Protege5s have become the rust standard  :rofl2: I did see plenty of rusty 04-06 Mazda 3s as well as well as first gen Mazda 5s. I wonder if they smartened up and used better steel? Most Mazda 3s 08 and onward look clean.

I wouldn't call BC the cheap car capital of Canada anymore, but it's still the most rust free province.

$40 for a junker steering wheel switch off eBay and $42 for a brand new 4 pin brake switch from the dealer (old switch only had 2 pins) plus 45 minutes install was all I needed to add cruise control.

Oh yea, installed the Sony head unit into the 5.

Oof, it'll be worth it hopefully. I used to be indifferent about cruise control but now I'll use it around town to maintain a certain speed when traffic is light to avoid speeding tickets.

One of the good things about electronics today is that everything is already programmed and installed, just need the right interface to it.

Cool head unit. I had a similar Sony (XAV-AX100 I think) with CarPlay in my beige LS 400. Worked like a charm!

So the 5 is still running great, I’ve put 22,000 km in it since getting it in June.

Decided to give myself the gift of better night visibility.

Good stuff, got it for $34 during Black Friday.

Not mine but showing off what my ex replaced her 3 with. The buyer of the 3 pulled up in his brothers 07 Explorer Limited V8 which happened to be for sale which she liked, so I checked it out and she bought it the day after. Has 201,900 km on it. The 292 HP 4.6L V8 with the bulletproof 6 speed transmission was the one to get as opposed to the V6 dud that’s paired to a :censor: poor 5 speed transmission.

There are some quirks. The vehicle randomly thinks we’re getting in/out of the vehicle while turning or braking so it’ll activate easy entry on the driver seat which puts it all the way to the back. Luckily it’s a feature that can be disabled but I’m going to find a fix because she does like the feature. The passenger side air gets confused sometimes when the temperature setting is changed and blows hot air, and only restating the car fixes it. I’m going to see if it’s the sensor or actuator causing the issue. One of tires is unsalvageable but another set of tires is going on as I post this.

Overall it’s a great vehicle. The size is a lot more manageable than the Sequoia was at 10.5” shorter and 5” narrower. Fuel economy is abysmal lol but not my vehicle and she’s permanently 45% WFH going forward. I’ll get to use it when I want to use the trailer.  She and I are on pretty good terms like that.

Nice, I much prefer that generation of Explorer over the current, and I agree that the 4.6L/6-speed combo is the one to have. That A/C issue with the one side blowing hot is the actuator, pretty common problem. Replace the actuator and preform a 'recalibration' on the system.
