How would you make your perfect car?
« on: August 27, 2013, 02:23:21 pm »
Imagine for a moment, that you found an empty beer can on a side walk near by your place, and when you pick it up (to be a good samaritan, of course!!) a beer can genie comes out and says 'I will grant you 1 wish that has to do with replacing your car, standard limited liability and conditions apply.'

so you ask 'what are the conditions?'

genie says "Tell me your Ideal Car and i'll build it for you, but you have to select every parts from existing cars"

he goes on to explain the rules.  you pick parts you want in the following categories :
car body   (looks)   :    i.e.  ferrari 458, porsche 991 GT3, Mclaren P1, RS4, VW Beattle etc..
Engine                    :  i.e AMG 6.2L, Ferrari 458, 2.0L TFSI from VW, LS7 from vette, etc.
Suspension            :   i.e  aluminium double wishbone from NSX, macpherson strut/multilink from M3, etc
Shifter                    :   i.e.  Honda s2k 6 speed, DSG from VW, single clutch F1 gears, etc.

doesn't matter weather physical parts actually fit or not... Genie is MAGIC..

Finally, the genie says 'this will be your only car until the end of time, so think carefully, and once done you will be responsible for all expenses related to maintaining it.'

So, let your imagination fly.   what would make your perfect car?  ;D

Driving thrills makes my wallet lighter.. and therefore makes me faster because i'm shedding weight... :D

Do you also get the 5c back on the beer can?

Body- either a 1970 Chevelle, 1973 Camaro or 1973 Firebird....
Engine- Id be stuck between a 6L V12 twin turbo out of a Benz or the LS7 out of the Vette ZR1.
Suspension- Easy, NSX please
Transmission- Ive driven a Mustang with a T56 6 spd manual out of a viper....loved that tranny.

If I lived in the southern states...this would be it...period.

Now, back to reality.
Body- Ford Superduty F350 SRW, crew cab, short box.
Engine- 2004-2006 6BT Cummins 24 valve 5.9L I6, pre emmisions, reliable.
Chassis- Front and rear axle out of the dodge, steering out of a GMC 1 ton.
Transmission-Allison 1000 6spd PPE Stage 5 upgrade.

Lighten up Francis.....

Seriously, not being a car designer nor an engineer I am not sure that even a genie could necessarily make a good car by assembling parts like that.

I'll take body and suspension from the Citroen SM with the small V8 from the Lotus Esprit in the back with a 7 speed DSG in there somewhere.    As the donor car and engine have been out of production for some time  but examples do still exist.

or

Body from a Morgan 4+   with suspension and powertrain from a S2000.   That would work quite well.

Or, referring to another thread going on here.....Jeep Wrangler body on a Forester platform with the 2.0 XT engine and a VW DSG tranny.

Could have been worse Sailor...could have been a Trabant body redone in carbon fibre with that powertrain.

guess everybody is rich, no one is thinking of fuel economy.  This is the vehicle you will have forever, gas prices aren't getting any cheaper... What exactly are you towing with this?

If I wanted to tow, something like this would work

Engine: 3.0L Diesel from the Jeep Grand Cherokee
Body: Toyota Tacoma Double Cab
Transmission: Allison 1000 6spd (2006 and newer) no upgrade
Chassis: Toyota Tacoma (current)
Interior: Lexus 570

Fuel economy. ....uhhhh no. I'm gonna be towing 6000lbs plus trailer and then 2 quads on the back of the truck....a smaller truck wouldn't handle that.

I have gone though this exercise many times and for me it is impossible to come up with one perfect car that does it all. One needs two or three perfect cars to meet all my criteria  :)

First generation CLS AMG body with the second generation chassis.

Lexus does the reliability updates.

Engine: Spoilt for choice. 5.5L Supercharged? AMG 6.2? VWAG W12? BMW N57 (M550d)? So hard to choose.

Transmission: Wonder if the Lexus 8 speed can handle that much torque.

Interior: I want the old school interior with a corded telephone please.
You can't just have your characters announce how they feel.
That makes me feel angry!

Present: 15.5 V60 T6 + Polestar, 17 MDX
Sometimes Borrow: 11 GLK350
Dark and Twisted Past: 13 TL AWD, 07 Z4 3.0si, 07 CLK550, 06 TSX, 07 Civic, 01 Grandma!

I want a Rubicon Unlimited with a big torque monster turbo diesel driveline built by Toyota.

The 540hp LS3 Miata as built by Flyin' Miata is perfect the way it is.

A Mercedes E63 "S" pretty much exactly as it is but with all the electronics by Toyota.

Those three would do me.  An off-roader/winter 4X4, a sporting machine and a ridiculously overpowered "daily driver sedan."

Mine would include those one inch thick floor mats from old Mercedes that johngenx referred to. In fact I'd want the very finest interior materials that pre-date plastic...woods, leathers, metals, chromed things and maybe a little ivory for good measure.
