Mine would include those one inch thick floor mats from old Mercedes that johngenx referred to. In fact I'd want the very finest interior materials that pre-date plastic...woods, leathers, metals, chromed things and maybe a little ivory for good measure.

LOL, that's a good call.  love the classic luxury.

guess everybody is rich, no one is thinking of fuel economy.  This is the vehicle you will have forever, gas prices aren't getting any cheaper...

this point is crucial in this exercise.. you have to think about many things for the car you will have to have forever.

for instance, Audi 4.2 V8 sounds magnificent in direct injected 420HP form, but is prone to carbon build up..

bugatti veyron is the cat's bee's knees but tires cost 3000$ and only last a year...

I have gone though this exercise many times and for me it is impossible to come up with one perfect car that does it all. One needs two or three perfect cars to meet all my criteria  :)

I know Snowy..  that's why it's difficult to make 1 perfect car!!!

LOL

mine would be
AMG 6.2L V8
in body of Aston AMV 8
Suspension of ... Ford GT
Manual shifter from .. S2K.
Interior of Bentley continental..  :)

Driving thrills makes my wallet lighter.. and therefore makes me faster because i'm shedding weight... :D

You raise a good point. With that in mind, I think the body of a Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera coupled with the drivetrain from a Tesla Model S85P would do nicely.

I did suggest a diesel... albiet a high po one :P

Now if you want to be really practical, I'll take a E350 4MATIC Bluetec Wagon that's been Lexus-approved thank you very much. But with the stereo out of the TL.
You can't just have your characters announce how they feel.
That makes me feel angry!

Imagine for a moment, that you found an empty beer can on a side walk near by your place, and when you pick it up (to be a good samaritan, of course!!) a beer can genie comes out and says 'I will grant you 1 wish that has to do with replacing your car, standard limited liability and conditions apply.'

so you ask 'what are the conditions?'

genie says "Tell me your Ideal Car and i'll build it for you, but you have to select every parts from existing cars"

he goes on to explain the rules.  you pick parts you want in the following categories :
car body   (looks)   :    i.e.  ferrari 458, porsche 991 GT3, Mclaren P1, RS4, VW Beattle etc..
Engine                    :  i.e AMG 6.2L, Ferrari 458, 2.0L TFSI from VW, LS7 from vette, etc.
Suspension            :   i.e  aluminium double wishbone from NSX, macpherson strut/multilink from M3, etc
Shifter                    :   i.e.  Honda s2k 6 speed, DSG from VW, single clutch F1 gears, etc.

doesn't matter weather physical parts actually fit or not... Genie is MAGIC..

Finally, the genie says 'this will be your only car until the end of time, so think carefully, and once done you will be responsible for all expenses related to maintaining it.'

So, let your imagination fly.   what would make your perfect car?  ;D

LOL, Genie is MAGIC. You crack me up aqua.

I'm with Snowy.

I can't imagine car monogamy.

I've tried.

When I was younger and idealistic.

But then I realized... I'm not the car monogamy type.

I'd be satisfied with any number of cuv's if:

- the construction was aluminum/carbon fibre
- they had a low range
- and skidplates
- and tow hooks
- and a hybrid powertrain
- and a rear seat center armrest
- and fold-flat passenger seats.
And some cretins think I hate cars.

Sounds like a combo Lexus/Toyota/Prius CUV

Good thread. I have thought about this too.
More so in asethetics.

My mish-mash
Exterior
Basically take a CUV based on size and height
Siding rear doors of a Mazda5
Crash test-ratings) of a Subaru Forester
High rear lights of a Volvo wagon (similar to CR-V)
Manual shifter of a Miata
Driver-side gas door (Like CX-5)
4x4 capability like a Jeep Wrangler
Engine power from a Forester XT
Handling/suspension from a CX-5
Maybe a possible 3rd-row folding like a Mazda5 or Rondo.
Exterior styling like a CX-5.

Interior
Interior comfort and design space like a Honda (somehow the CR-V seems HUGE compared to the CX-5)
Leather interior like BMW
Digital Dash/speedometer/tachometer of the RX-8 (I missed that speedometer/tach)  :(
A hand-brake (not a foot-brake) - CX-5

Fuel Economy (like a CX-5 or Forester)
And under $30k (well not high doubtful)

Well I think the Mazda CX-5 comes close, just not perfect.
