Regardless of price what I like about the 911 S is that it achieves all its performance greatness with 2.36 l less in displacement, 60 less horsepower, and 140 lbs less in torque.

Yea, I had mentioned that earlier (or in the other thread with the 4S)...it makes the achievement all the more remarkable.  The 4S was heavier, too.
How fast is my 911?  Supras sh*t on on me all the time...in reverse..with blown turbos  :( ...

LT1 is  7.5 lbs per HP vs the Porsche engine at 8.5 lbs - displacement is irrelevant. LT1 is a very light and small engine. The two cars also have pretty much the same fuel economy, too.

The Porsche was also 2.1 seconds slower around the track, eh?

If I drove on a track then I would have an issue.

We have a new road course here, and I would have either of those cars out, lots.  I'm super-duper bummed that the track speeds are high enough to warrant them regulating open cars to have roll bars.  I really don't want to have one in the Miata. In order to have the bar installed so you can still use the top, the clearance is too small between the driver/passenger head for it to be safe for use without a helmet.

The most enjoyable part of Porsche ownership for me was track events.  By far.  Pushing those cars to their true limits is 1000x more fun than anything you can do on the street.

Yeah, I can't imagine owning any of the cars discussed here and not taking them to the track regularly. What would be the point?

(Okay, it's late... I forgot we were also talking about a base Cayman here. Heck, the reason I chose it over the Corvette in the first place is because I think it would be the more enjoyable car to drive in the real world, on real roads with real traffic and real speed limits. Would still want to track it as much as possible, though.)

Corvette. IMO the Cayman screams "I wanted a Porsche, but couldn't afford a 911". It even looks like a baby 911!

The thing is, I love the S2000, Ive been in one and it was a fantastic car.

Oh, baby, yeah.  I'm fortunate enough to have a reasonable amount of left-seat time in an S2K, and I LOVE it.  It's still a benchmark for chassis engineering.  Thanks to the "low" power, there are cars faster around a track, but it would be tough to be more satisfying.

Well, maybe a Radical...

 ;D

lol yup

Tough decision.

The Stingray is a great car and a bargain. But I've been a Porsche fan longer than a Corvette fan (only like the recent models).  :P

IMO the Cayman screams "I wanted the best Porsche, so I didn't buy a 911".

I agree, I would rather have a Cayman over a 911.  But I voted for the Vette, as I would rather have that, than the Cayman.

Then again for that money, I'd actually buy a Ferrari 308 AND a Caterham for the track.

I took my brother's 2014 Cayman out with my brother for a little (ahem!) run around the back roads and can honestly say that my car is faster and quicker than his. A Corvette is going to be much much quicker still.  But.....OMG! the howl of that flat 6 under full song. Right behind your ears. And......that sport chrono package in sport plus mode with that PDK and those beautiful rev-matched and RIGHT NOW downshifts. Lacks a bit of roll stiffness , but in fairness I'm comparing it to my own coilovers and obviously a compromise made in the suspension tuning for people who don't regularly flog the car at the track. Nice interior, but I'd rather sit in a TT-RS. Frankly, I'd rather have a TT-RS and save a couple $$.

The Cayman is nice enough and no offence to those persons on this forum who own or covet one.

 Smitten but not converted.

Your brother get an S or regular cayman?

The S is a lot faster.  But you won't notice much on the street but on the track OMG.

Can't wait to try a new vette, I put a request in but it's winter now.

Regular Cayman but heavily optioned with Sport Chrono package, PDK, leather, sport steering wheel, Cayman S rims, etc.

Remember that you said you would volunteer to be his instructor in the May MCO Track/Instructional day in 2014?  ;-)

Car is a sweet drive but it's kinda like dating-your-sister nice.

Sure I'll instruct him if they let me.  They usually pair up the nice cars with the old guys so they don't complain, then I get the mazda3s

Surely if he asks for you, they'll assign you to him?  I was going to say for you not to drive his car like a Radical, but come to think of it, they're both mid-engine powertrain layouts.  Anyway, back to the Cayman vs. Corvette thread.  After seeing some of the MCO members' Vettes at the track, the Vette has my vote hands down.  Just don't share this with my brother....

I'll reserve opinion on that for now as I haven't seen a Vette in the flesh yet, but i dig the Caterham idea!
