You would be hard pressed to find a Porsche Cayman under $70k in dealer inventories. It would have to be ordered in.

This.  Not sure how thrilled a dealer would be to order one in either.

I dont think they would have a problem ordering one in...would take a long time and they would want the money up front so they wouldnt have to get stuck with it.
Lighten up Francis.....

Without having driven them both, going on the spec sheets, I'd go for the Corvette.

I love Porsches.  Love driving them.  The Cayman to me makes the 911 almost obsolete.  That said, I don't think I could pass up the incredible performance buy that the Corvette is.  I've owned both general types (Porsche and GM V-8) and the immediate response of a giant eight slug engine is something close to automotive nirvana.  The new Corvette combines enough horsepower and torque to power a battleship with a world-class chassis that posts record lap times.

The gold chain image of the Corvette driver should have faded away long ago.  They now reside in some pretty swanky garages next to some pretty exotic hardware.  There's a big-$$ guy in my 'burb that has some pretty incredible cars, and his modded C6 Z-06 is his favourite machine.

Before this year, I would have said Cayman every time. Corvette's just don't interest me. But the new one is stunning, and delivers awesome performance. So it's a much harder choice.

I'd still lean towards the Porsche, though. More fun to drive a slow(er) car fast, and all that. Plus, even though the 'Vette has come a long way in the looks department, the Cayman still wins that contest.

Snowman and Rrocket saw me lusting over the Cayman R last year.

That may be true...but you were doing far filthier things when you were looking at the Vette IIRC... ;D

I honestly have no idea which one I'd choose.  I've never even seen either in the flesh let alone drive them.  Gut feeling would be the Vette though.

Cayman. I know the Vette is a great car; both capable and reliable, they just don't really excite me.

I think that image is still in a lot of people's minds. It's just that it no longer has much basis in truth.

During the 70's and 80's they were poseur cars with 150 horsepower...today...they are proper world class sports cars, even I lost the whole High Karate aftershave and goldchain thoughts.
