So a TDi with GTi suspension and fancy bits?? Does the engine have more power?? Is there an LSD??
The GTD, available as a two- and four-door hatchback, borrows the sports suspension from the gasoline-powered Golf GTI. It is powered by a 2.0-liter turbodiesel four-cylinder rated at 184 hp and 280 pounds-feet of torque.VW says the car will accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 7 seconds and achieve more than 40 mpg on the highway. The GTD, available as a two- and four-door hatchback, borrows the sports suspension from the gasoline-powered Golf GTI. The urea tank is typically filled when owners change their oil.
If somebody just wants more tq in their GTi its much cheaper to get a Stage1 flash. I'm sure somebody will buy the GTD but I'm taking my name off the list.

I have trouble thinking who would buy this over the regular Golf TDi (which I think already comes with a sports suspension). Plus, how much of a premium over the gas GTi will this be?
Not that Id be interested in a GTD, but Ive always liked the TDi motor. Hmmm, 280 lb ft of torque is awesome, but yeah, "sport" diesel, no thank you.
I'm surprised at the lukewarm reaction to this car here. We always seem to want stuff we can't have, and then when they bring it here, we don't want it anymore.
I'm sure this will be a great package, but the price is the biggest concern for this car - GTI+TDi = $40K CAD.What I would really like to see in Canada is the regular Golf 4Motion available in other markets for 2014 MY.

Current GTI starts at about $30,700 with destination. I can't see the GTD being more than a couple grand higher than the GTI, comparably equipped. So even with a modest price increase for the next generation model the GTD shouldn't be approaching $40k.
The current GTI packaging is very unfriendly (expensive). If you want Navi you must pay $5,800, bringing up the price before tax to $37,570 (w/DSG). You cannot get Navi without leather and sunroof. You cannot only get the nicer wheels without sunroof ($2,500 Sport Package).Add another $2,000 - $2,500 premium for the ugraded diesel engine and you are at $40K.
