Test Drive: 2014 Ford Mustang GT Convertible
« on: June 18, 2013, 06:31:08 am »

Contributor Haney Louka finds the outgoing Mustang to be a true muscle car: menacing road presence, gobs of power, and great music ' and tank-like handling.

A Mustang with 50k+ price isn't more a pony car and I'm wondering how much is enough for a straight line sprinter?

What would a Mustang review be without a snipe about the solid axle?  Doesn't seem to hold back track performance.

On a track no, but in real world driving it is a concern.

This car with a V6 or even a turbo-6,  I wouldn't be interested.  With that 5.0 though?  Different story.
To be able to row through the gears with the top down & take in the noise of that V8 at work... i'm in.

I want a V8.  I want a convertible.  This is it.

Agree with Laney on the numb/disconnected steering, that was a big negative in the V6 'vert I had... was hoping the GT would be better.

I dont like convertible cars, love Jeeps, but when it comes to cars the only convertible ones that have remotely appealed to me were the Miata and the Mercedes SL line.

No doubt the Mustang is a success, it does what it's designed to do.  I prefer the exterior of the Camaro.  Although I don't think I would buy either, convertible or coupe.  For me the V6 is strong enough,  I just don't like the seating position, the high belt line is annoying, with a sunk in feeling.  I know you don't get the noise of the V8, but over 300hp in a V6 is good enough for me.  The one pro for me is the trunk space vs a Miata.  I guess that's what trunk racks are for...

For me the V6 is strong enough

More foolish words have never been spoken.

Its not foolish...I totally agree with you, but foolish is kinda harsh. I dont get why you would buy one of these with a V6 as much as I dont get why you would get an automatic one or not get the track pack.....different strokes for different hairdre....folks  ;D

Nah.  It's because it isn't FWD and the font on the speedo won't allow him to read it easily.

"Hyperbole": heightened exaggeration to make a point.

No, it is not foolish to settle with the v6...but it is still settling.  Mustang is not a good enough car on its merits to get one with just the v6.

Especially when the V8 is oh so awesome.

Get what your saying, but the V6 does 0-100 in less than 6.5 seconds with the auto!  Seems to get pretty similar numbers of the 4.6L V8, but much cheaper, better fuel economy.  I am not going to spend extra money for the sound of a V8, and shave 1.5 seconds off the 0-100km/h time, just not worth it, IMHO...

At least I wouldn't buy the turbo 6, if I was getting a truck, then I would get the V8.

Go ahead and have yer laffs. No, none of those great features would change this beastie for me. If you put one of these next to a BR-Z and gave me my choice to take away and keep...welll...there would be no hesitation..V8 or not...I would take the BR-Z in a shot. Burnt rubber and bouncing rear axles are a no no in my book and, after tasting those features, what would you be left with...nothing except numb stearing and, well, a decent looking dash. I must say I like that but dash photo's are hard to judge.
The neck jerk would be everything to some, but I need more than that, which I believe can be found elsewhere.

I love the V-8 pony cars, and the BOSS302 is near the top of my list of desirable cars.  I love cool roadsters.  But, and I'm not sure I can fully explain it, I'm just not a fan of the pony car convertibles.

That makes 3 of us.  Never was a fan of the ragtop pony cars.
