Finally after 9 1/2 years its time to replace the OEM summers on my 335i, 225 fronts and 255 rears 19 inch. Getting them installed tomorrow.

This morning I cleaned the wheels…I know I’m going to get my man card revoked, but I really dislike detailing or cleaning cars. Results are great, don’t like the process.
I love it when a plan comes together.

Don't feel bad. You went to school and got a good job so you wouldn't have to detail or clean cars.  ;D

Seems like you just picked that up a couple years ago.

Wow!! I go through a set of rears on the SLK every summer & you get 9.5yrs outta tires :banghead:

I hate detailing my cars as well. The SLK isn't too bad, but the Passport is just a ton of work.

I know right! Time sure flies. It only has 56,000 km and is in great shape. And as much as I don’t enjoy it, I’m going to show it some love with a full detail it deserves. Maybe I’ll even put a coat of wax or clear coat on it :)

I agree with you fully... I can't be bothered anymore. Tiresome and annoying. We have an on-site detail that just takes care of all my junk in between client cars.

In the summer my cars get washed when it rains.  In the winter they get weekly trips to the self wash place near me.

I can't use the automated ones because of the roof boxes.

I like the automated washes in the winter, because they've got an undercarriage spray that washes some of the salt off from below the car.

For some reason I don't think that means what I was hoping it would.  :rofl2:

I've always hand washed everything, and continue to do so, I actually enjoy the process to some extent, Saturday morning or after work on Friday, it's a nice mindless task that helps me kinda de-stress. That said, the roads are cleaner here (no salt, frequent heavy down pours) so cars stay pretty clean and I find myself doing it a lot less than I used to. Maybe once a month now on the daily drivers.

You can do a better job at the spray wash by bending over.

Oddly most of the cleaning I do is vacuuming the mouse poop out of crappy (literally!) projects cars. The Elantra has been washed exactly once (on the outside - the inside gets cleaned) in my ownership of 40k kms.  :rofl2:

Speaking of which I bought a Datsun a few weeks ago. Took a chance on registration status but finally checked it today. Good news - it has AB reg so savable!

If you're doing it yourself, I highly recommend Turtle Wax Ceramic Solutions spray. Super easy: wash and dry car, spray on, wipe off, dry excess if needed. Lasts 6-12 months depending if you park outdoors or not.

It can be a chore, but good gear and great products mitigate the PITA factor of car washing.

And an outstanding topper (Shinee Wax my current fav) keeps the car looking top notch for weeks to months...with little more than a rinse or quick detail to bring it back to amazing again.

I think those currently using a ceramic or similar topper/detailer know what I'm talking about.

But yea, I get it. If you don't like it, no amount of improvement in the method will make it enjoyable.

I need to bring it up to a point where a topping makes sense. My plan this summer is to fully clay bar the car, polish and then protect. A lot of love.

I used to LOVE detailing cars - mine, my wife's / parents' / sister's etc.  Can't freaking stand it now. There's always a long list of things I'd rather be doing. I'm a convert to the whole ceramic thing primarily for ease of maintenance.  An expensive initial outlay (or time-consuming to DIY), but a piece of cake to keep it looking like new thereafter.  If you go that route, I can't recommend Gyeon Wet Coat highly enough.  You spray it on to a wet car, panel by panel, and immediately hose it off.  That's it.  Applying it to your whole car takes literally two minutes.  Makes even those lazyman spray and wipe products seem like a freaking chore in comparison.  :rofl2:

Wokeism is nothing more than the recognition and opposition of bigotry in all its forms.  Bigots are predictably triggered.

^^Thanks for the tip. I like this approach. I’ll lay it out here, I probably wash my car twice a year… :run:
