Nice! That gauge cluster is one of my favorites BTW, it's a good layout with analog gauges showing all the critical info right across the top.

It’s a nice cluster. The redesign in 2019 actually looks cheaper and low rent for some reason. There’s one thing I absolutely hate about these trucks is the way they downshift as you come to a stop, it’s this lurch into second. I’ve tried all my bully dog gas GT tunes with no success to eliminate this.

Day one with the muzzler. Took a trip to Kelowna and back (80km). Lots of heavy traffic as usual. 13.7 isn’t bad at all. Plus, the truck no longer goes into V4 which helps the feel immensely on the highway. Most probably can’t feel that transition between 4 and 8, but I do and glad it’s gone! Worth every penny if you own a GM with AFM.

Money well spent. I hated the AFM on my G8, first thing I addressed.

I didn't know you had a G8! They're such cool cars... a friend had one many years ago I had the pleasure of driving a few times.

Needed a manual because the 1-2 combo of AFM and that auto was not great.  The build quality was very poor but the driving dynamics were very good.  The paint was so thin the trunk would get rock chips some how. I drove it for a year and sold it for what I bought it for. It had a very bad cold piston slap that GM refused to repair (Some of them just sound like that.  ::)).

Were you the one who's sunroof exploded in the G8?

Yes!. GM wouldn't touch that one either.

The G8, great motor in a mediocre car....The styling doesn't do much for me, and as noted, the interior quality was a low point, even for GM. Still a cool car, but was probably a good call to dump it for break-even when you did.

Was the 2014-2017 Chevy SS any better?

No sure, I imagine it's similar, but I've never driven one being that we never got them in Canada. I've seen a handful since moving state-side, but again, the looks don't do much for me.

Noticed a little spot on the driveway under the Escalade last night....Trans fluid. Traced the leak to a trans cooler line leaking at a crimp, so I've ordered a new replacement ($10 on Rock). The annoying part is that I replaced that same line in 2016 with a Dorman part, I guess 8 years isn't terrible, but doing the job a second time is rather irritating.

Fixed this today...Turned out to be a lot more irritating that I had anticipated. First the old line was totally fused to the fitting on the trans cooler, and the fitting so corroded that the little ridge that holds the retaining clip was gone. So I removed the fitting, twisted off the line and went to AutoZone 15 minutes away (the one 3 minutes away was out of stock) to get a new fitting. Came back, installed new fitting and attempted to install the new line, 15 minutes of wrestling it into position only to realize that it's about 2 inches too long and won't work....Back to AutoZone (yes..close one was out of stock, so 15 minutes away again) for another Dorman line. Wrestled that one into place and got everything wrapped up, but what should've taken an hour took 3+ hours.

Of note though, I went to return the no-fit part to RockAuto, went through the online claim thing and they just refunded my money, no need to ship the old one back.

Yeah it was poor build quality with tough to get parts which is not a great combo. The handling balance was very good, outside of a first gen CVTS-V it was IMO the best handling/ride balance of any GM 4 door I had driven during that time period. Oh and it had a night driving mode which would black out all gauges aside from speedo/rev ala Saab. (best feature outside of engine)  It could gobble prairie miles at a ridiculous rate without sweating and had better fuel economy than the Volvo V70R it replaced. The GM piston slap made me nervous enough to move on.

First seasonal handwash of the CX-90, damn that blue looks great! Only one tiny rock chip on the front plastic bumper, no other winter casualties  :)

And tire-swapped the Crosstrek - one down, two to go.

Damn I wish we could hand wash here but we have zero tolerance for soap into our storm drains.

That'd be a deal breaker for me, nothing like a nice handwash on a Friday night or Saturday morning; nice mindless relaxing task with visible results.

Really?

Even the environmentally safe stuff, fully biodegradable, green friendly stuff?

Shocker....virtue signaling overreach.

Also, you can do a 2 bucket Optimum No Rinse hand wash. That's perfectly drain safe

I handwashed the car on Christmas Day  ;D

But yes, the first handwash of the season is satisfying. The wand wash / touchless washes can't get all the dirt/grime off.

That's been the case for at least 25 years, maybe longer, Any kind of surfactant is a no go. Our rivers here are not huge and we are at the start point so it wouldn't take much to muck them up. Our main river is a world class fly fishing spot so I don't mind being on the safe side. What are these fully biodegradable cleaners you speak of? Could you drink them with no ill effects?

I once looked into alternatives but it is a grey area. Attached is the Simple Green safer alternatives that says safe for release into water bodies. Reading the MSDS:

It looks the same old. The solution to pollution is dilution..

There's several car washes that are biodegradable.

Simple Green is one of them.

The Calgary bylaw allows for water only. $500 first offence.

Again, if they have a problem with something like this, it's another example of the people who supposedly believe in the science...not believing in the science.

I couldn't find the MSDS on that product. Do you know where I can find it? The simple green  "biodegradable" carwash, those were the MSDS page I posted where it says not for release into waterways lol.

The problem with the term biodegradable is it ignores the length of time it may take to degrade. If it runs into our storm sewers it would be in the river in a matter of hours. If it takes weeks to degrade that will not help with the phosphate algal blooms occurring between now and then. We already have problems with algal blooms out here. Are algal blooms not an issue in Ontario?
