Good on you for getting that done. Those ratcheting wrenches are gold if you need them, trouble is you never know what exactly you need for a job until the end of it

Nice job Gurgie! I think I would've called for a tow and at least work on it in the garage

Yikes! Nice field fix. Typically it's something seized that gets the belt. Belts typically don't break if everything else is ok.

Yeah, I should have known better & got my son to check the pulleys before I headed up there with the new belt.

My son said that his next purchase will be some ratcheting wrenches, he figures he'll be able to use them when he finishes school & starts his apprenticeship in a few months.

I was doing all I could to avoid a tow, thankfully it worked out in the end.

Congrats on the effort.  What a PIA.

Someone buy this kid a CAA membership for either the 200 km or 320 km tow.  Such a deal when you're driving a beater.

^ I second that. Really handy, and the premium membership or whatever it's called is under $200, which is less than the cost of most tows.

That reminds me that I need to get CAA for this years travels since I'm past my 60K with Toyota.  Of course I just got new passport pictures done and see that you can get them free with the Plus (200 km towing) or Premium (320 km towing) levels. Damn.

My CAA expires in March, but I've already gone ahead and signed up with AAA. Basically the same deal, think it was a bit cheaper here...$175ish. Well worth it when you're travelling too, forget trying to find a reputable tow, let these guys handle it.

I did, it's included free with the Triangle World Elite MasterCard. I activated it, but never used it. Technically I still have it, not sure if it works down here though. I had CAA most of my life, and I am comfortable with it, and the cost is reasonable, so I just stuck with it even though I had the CTC program.

No, that one got written off by Bella's Son last April, or March. This one is the 2011 that I got for my Son.

Really should look at CAA for the whole family. I still have roadside assistance on the Passport & on the SLK I have it through Hagarety. But it would be handy for Bella & the boys.

Or an old Land Rover where the nearest competent mechanic could be 600k kms. ;D

Nice!  My eldest sons 2012 with the 1.8 is over 250k now also.
Quality is never an accident; it is always the result of high intention, sincere effort, intelligent direction, and skillful execution; it represents the wise choice of many alternatives.

Fresh oil, spark plugs and ignition coils for the GTI.

I just realized VW charges a pretty penny for an oil filter ($46) and drain plug ($14). Usually I don't pay attention to the break down but this time it jumped at me and looked at the invoice.

Next time will probably buy the full package not only the oil.
