I'll take the wins whenever I can get them.  ;D  +2 today so the yard was very busy.

Computer has two maintenance reminders, the first one went at 8k, just a bunch of checks and tire rotation i believe but i did an oil change anyways. Oil change reminder came on at 16k which is the suggested interval. Seems a bit long for me and a 4.73L  jug of 0w16 mobil1 and toyota filter is only ~$50.

I had no idea Toyota would let owners of late go 16KM on an oil interval.  I thought all Canadian Toyotas were classified as "severe service".  Particularly hybrids turning off and on constantly.  Really bad policy.

0W16 is a Group 3 oil despite it's "Mobil 1" label.  For example, Mobil 1 has two 0W20s.  One is Group 3, the other Group 4.  There is a big difference between them regarding longevity.

Yeah, Car Care Nut on YouTube was saying that the newer Toyota hybrids tend to build up condensation especially with short trips. Probably prudent to go 8k or 6 months.

Thought about putting the winter mats in but didn't bother.  Still looks like early November around here.  ::)

Helped the stepdaughter with her Corolla Cross in Vancouver last week. Wouldn't start and gave a horrendous menu of error messages. AWD not functional, brake power low, various other malfunctions blah blah blah, take to dealer immediately, etc.

I thought it could be just a low battery but didn't have a way to check things out. The tow truck driver thought the same and said he sees these on calls all the time, every brand has its own menu of horribleness when the battery gets low, ironically everything but 'low battery'

Toyota told her it takes 40 minutes to charge up a battery fully after a start and gave a bit of a lecture on putting a trickle charger on it occasionally. Turned out the battery did have a defective cell and Toyota changed it out under warranty

That being said, she doesn't drive a lot and I bought her a trickle charger and wired it in

A few thoughts

-some sort of battery level gauge on modern vehicles would be handy. An iPhone has one, why not a car? And maybe an actual 'low battery' message rather than an exhaustive list of everything that quits working at low voltages

-electric vehicles seem like a great choice for city dwellers that don't drive much. Especially in the lower mainland where the weather is moderate

Definitely a good idea to use a trickle charger. Cheap insurance IMO.

Yeah, I had one of these or its many Chinese equivalents in my IS 500 for the six months I had it. Worked flawlessly once set up properly.

What Lexus is this?

2006 RX400H,  White, beige interior.  There's a bit or rust showing in the rear fenders (1/2").  It's been reliable. I replaced the battery when I first got it, not the hybrid battery the regular one, and the brakes,  that's it.  Everything works.  Fuel Average is about 10.3L /100km, I'm a bit heavy on the pedal.   IT's actually a pretty quick car.

These are nice. I have a client who had two modern RX350s stolen one after the other, and finally he couldn't deal with the inconvenience. He went on Marketplace and found a mechanically clapped but visually sorted 2007 RX400h for $2500, with 480,000km on it. He paid us a few thousand to do a hybrid battery replacement, suspension refresh and fluids, and he's been driving it daily for quite some time.

Yes I can see that.  There are lurkers in our neighborhood at nights and mornings.  A neighbor had his Benz stolen one morning 2 months ago.   I've read about the hybrid batteries way back when I bought it (pre covid)  they are not bad to replace.   My plan was to drive it until something major breaks but they go forever.   The only down side, having 2 kids, is the space. it's not small but definitely not a big SUV,  it feels more like a lifted big hatchback.

The seats are super comfy though.

I'm thinking of replacing our Cayenne and a RX400h might be on the list.   Oddly, it's been hard to find stuff that doesn't have very light coloured interior, not great with dogs.

Just had the oil changed in the Golf at an indie mechanic.  $159.50.

Surprisingly, only 5 cents cheaper than the dealer.
