The Volvo had to go into the dealer for a seatbelt recall of all things. I had the dealer check into the cost of adding remote start function. The function is basically connecting car to Volvo service interface for it's PIN code and toggling remote start. So essentially 10 minutes of work and no shop supplies. The service manager could do it in a suit and tie. The cost? $600  :rofl2: I asked the service advisor if he could break that down for me and he couldn't. No :censor:;D 15 minutes of work tops.

and they wonder why people avoid the dealer like the plague..

Anyhow 30 seconds of google fu shows that a very simple program can hack the PIN code via laptop and then it is just a matter of toggling the option on the configure menu.  Dealer thieves.

Tire on the Sonoma went flat in the garage last week, finally got around to dealing with it. Turns out it was a massive nail, funny how it even ended up in the tire...I was able to put a plug in it, and then put 50kms or so on it running some errands and it's held up, so hopefully it's fine.

That has to be a record for length.  Rear tire I assume.  I get all my flats of course in the rear.  Either a roofing nail or a screw.

Yep, left rear. I was expecting a roofing nail because I've been finding them everywhere around the house, but nope.

Beautiful truck! Gotta love that multi-focus on modern smartphones  :)

As for the nail, I'll take that over an exacto knife blade  :-X
I keep seeing lots of people in the far left highway lane pull to the shoulder in an apparent attempt to speed up a driver in front of them, who is already doing 120...

Slower traffic keeps right. Not left lane is doing 120...

Finally got around to the final two plate swaps...Firebird & Camaro. Firebird went first, had been sitting about 2 months, fired right up by the shift interlock switch wouldn't release, after a few minutes of bumping the brake pedal and jiggling the shifter I was able to shift it out of park - not the first time it's done that, and it's annoying, so I took the console apart (2 minutes) and just unplugged the shift interlock. In GMs of this era energized = locked, so simply unplugging it unlocks it.
Then I swapped the rear plate and removed the big ugly front plate holder, found some black plugs it fill the holes for now, but I paint matched a set and have them ready to go in whenever I get a chance. This car probably benefitted the most from losing the rear plate, these were styled after the Pontiac Banshee concept and you can really see it without the plate obstructing the beak. Used it for some last minute Christmas shopping too and was reminded just how well this car still drives....Fantastic low-cost DD if you don't care about stuff like modern tech or safety.

Next was the Camaro, which hadn't moved since it was shipped down here and parked on the lift nearly 3 months ago. Started right up though, even though it wasn't on a maintainer. The front nose on this car looks awkward without a plate, so I decided to run the original 1984 Ontario plate that it wore when it was delivered to my dad in March 84, and that it continued to wear up till around 2010 when I swapped over to Historic....Doubtful that the cops here will care, especially since it's got historic registration down here, but if I do get pulled over I'll swap it with something else.

2nd oil change for the Sienna today, just over 16k in 6 months. Mileage is taking a bit of a hit in the cooler weather and sits at 8.0L/100km, almost 100% city driving.

Are you changing it at 8k km intervals? Is this just arbitrary or is the vehicle notifying at 8k kms?

That's pretty outstanding.  The previous V6 would be 14/100 maybe.  Depends on remote start use.

As for oil, Toyota is doing the right thing.  8K km is required.  0W16 is like water.  I have 2 vehicles that have the mileage timer.  It works if one uses the top tier oil that is an extra charge.  Few owners spring for that.  I think the mandatory 8K km is the way to go regardless of oil type.

The Ridgeline had an issue pop up. The hood prop rod fell off and disappeared somehow. I can't believe it didn't get hung up somewhere. Pick N pull has a couple ridgelines in the inventory so looks like I need to go get one for $4.

IIRC Toyota prescribed oil changes are every 16k. I do 8k with an OEM filter just in case and also because the car is a keeper.

Computer has two maintenance reminders, the first one went at 8k, just a bunch of checks and tire rotation i believe but i did an oil change anyways. Oil change reminder came on at 16k which is the suggested interval. Seems a bit long for me and a 4.73L  jug of 0w16 mobil1 and toyota filter is only ~$50.

Yeah, in my system there are two counters (reminders?) to reset - one for maintenance and one for oil. BTW Mobil is on sale at wally this week. I think I'm going to install an oil drain valve next time, will have to see how much it will be sticking out.

I had no idea Toyota would let owners of late go 16KM on an oil interval.  I thought all Canadian Toyotas were classified as "severe service".  Particularly hybrids turning off and on constantly.  Really bad policy.

0W16 is a Group 3 oil despite it's "Mobil 1" label.  For example, Mobil 1 has two 0W20s.  One is Group 3, the other Group 4.  There is a big difference between them regarding longevity.

Trip to the picker yard was successful. New to me hood prop rod and grommet for the Ridgeline. $5.  ;D

Quick oil/filter change and she is good for 2024.
