Ugh, I usually throw some patio cushions, towels or whatever else is handy on it when that happens.

New pads and rotors are on.

Couldn't get the electronic parking brake to retract electronically. Fortunately, this model apparently allows the removal of only the motor (later versions the caliper and motor are integral). Once the motor is removed, you can use a Torx 40 to wind the parking brake back...then compress the caliper piston.

The brake warning light is still on. Apparently, the mechanic was unaware he had to input the thickness of the new pads during the initialization with VCDS. Despite owning a euro-only garage (and he has an A4 for his son), the mechanic/owner said this is the first time he's had to do that for an Audi. He's never serviced an S8 before..but owned a V10 M5 for many years. Said he had a good time going through the her checking it out and comparing to his BMW.

I'll try and sort the brake light myself with OBDEleven.

Said one of the boots are torn on front drive axles. So I ordered 2 new axles.

Will tackle that next.

How is the parts supply for this beast?

Had to perform an emergency pad change on a former 2019 MDX rear caliper only to discover it required a security torx.  Absolutely senseless.

Sounds like typical German FGC. I wonder what it must be like to service those Mercedes models with the electronic brake by wire system :rofl2:

In the end, Mercedes had to extend the warranty to 25 years on those brake by wire systems.

For these items? Not horrible. I got Centric rotors with the coated hats with Posi-Quiet pads for $371 CDN delivered. I've used this combo before.

For the CV axles, I bought Trakmotive. These are the same company I used when replacing the CV axles on IQs A5. They have an excellent product. $275 CDN all in shipped for both axles.

So not horrible.

Not sure what to do, if anything, about tranny maintenance. It's supposed to be lifetime fluid, but I'm not buying it. I want to add a highly regarded additive to the tranny, but the fill hole looks to be a PITA to reach. Like removing an oxygen sensor and maybe a mount to get to it. And I not particularly enthusiastic about doing a complete pan drop and drain and fill...since I'm not sure how long I'll own this car. I'm told it's a $750-$1000 job! Though I have no idea how accurate that is since I haven't dove into investigation the DIY yet.

That's IQs car, yes. It has over 400k on it. Still looks and drives great. People always asking to buy it. Manual makes it desirable.

Her A5 is also rare-ish. 3.2 V6 with manual.

S8 is cool. Am warming up to it.

Prime is nerdy cool.

Yea, driveway is interesting.

The IS300 is the last Lexus I've really wanted.

Interesting.  So no LS, LC, IS-F, IS500, GS-F?  Is it because no manuals really after that point?

That's part of it but I just generally prefer Euro cars.

To me the most desirable Lexus has always been the first gens of the IS and SC and the second gen GS.

I do have appreciation for the GS-F and IS500 as being the last of the RWD naturally aspirated V8 imports.

Packed it up with the snow tires, WeatherTech mats, wheel covers and nuts, touch up paint, winter blades and maintenance records and sent it off to a new, younger family to face new adventures in my native Gatineau / Ottawa region.

I didn't count that because of how rare it is.

I understand they're supposed to be excellent but the LF-A has never done it for me on an emotional level.

I agree. It's an absolutely wonderful car but I ran out of fingers trying to count what I'd rather have in that price range.

I have one dream car left to add to the garage and while I'm probably going to order the personalized plate for it sometime this year as motivation, I'm a few years away from being able to achieve that goal. It's sorta in LF-A price territory.

Same here.... It has some Euro flare to it... Good units with manual are very hard to come by. I recall they came in colors too - remember the yellow ones?

When I came to Canada, there was a Lexus showroom by my work place with a yellow one in the window. I used to admire it every time I was walking by....

While I love the LF-A, when I think about "supercars" that I dream about driving and owning, the two that come to mind immediately are the Porsche Carrera GT (manual, V10, great looking) and the first generation Acura NSX.  I would however take the LF-A over any Lambo, Ferrari, or McLaren.
