Toying with the idea of suggesting to my wife that we replace the Subaru with a gently used RX350.  Seeing lots of nice 2021/2022 with low mileage in the low $50s.  Would become the default family vehicle.  She's insistent that she wants a 6-cylinder in the her next vehicle, and I'm seeing the writing on the wall for that....
I've certainly heard of worse ideas...

That's what we did, gently used RX instead of a new Rav4.

I'd suggested it, but driving them back to back really sold it to her

That being said, there's some big differences in the RX trim levels

Passed the 240,000km mark on my Civic, all with the original clutch. Car is solidly into beater status now with failing clearcoat, rust forming in typical areas and exterior wear and tear of 16 winters clearly showing. Interior is still in very nice shape and no issues mechanically... How many more years/kms until the rust bug claims it for good?

Spray spots with Krown.  Get out the rivet gun and spray bomb.  I'd say 5 years, but the bell housing maybe fused to the engine if the clutch goes.

Finally got around to replace the "tuning valve/emission solenoid" on the Outlander. Replaced the engine filter and cleaned up the snorkel and filter housing while at it (long overdue).

Took the car for a highway drive and gave it the beans...it looks like the car drives well again - had a nasty vibration under full load, fluctuation in rpm when cold and of course a permanent code. No code after the drive either but will keep monitoring.

Now I have to deal with the exhaust leak which got worse in the recent days and it's now really bad...Off to Midas tomorrow for this one... I hope they can patch it up rather than replace.

Tailgate hinges replacement  tentative for the weekend.

That's impressive mileage on the original clutch.  I got 180,000 km on my Civic's clutch, but it was oil that got to it.

Yeah, I kept my Mazda going for years by spraying the rusty areas underneath and internally with a can of spray grease, including things like metal fuel lines and brake lines. Used a thin film of vaseline on outside spots as it was clear. Did need to scrape a bit sometimes as grease/oil doesn't slow down anything if loose paint gets in the way.

The clutch went to 380,000 on that truck, so they can last a long time

^ Main reason I do my own wheel changeovers is to get a good look underneath and give rusty bits a spray with RC.  Kind of regret putting a trailer hitch on our GS-350 as they seem to start rusting soon after they get installed.  I give the hitch assembly a shot of RC regularly and it helps some but still the only visible sign of rust on the car.  Might take it off if it gets too bad as it doesn't get used much now that we have the Frontier.   :-\

Rust Check.  Not sure if it's the go to brand but the local Krown dealer is not someone I want to do business with and the RC dealer is very good and reputable. They gave me a free can of spray last year when i had both cars sprayed last year.  Simple as that.

Yeah, I see it all over the place for sale.  Used to be just one type but now they have several different types.

CTC carries Rust Check (both the thinner red colored one and the thicker green/yellow one), as well as Rust Cure 3000. My preference is actually the Rust Cure 3000 as it seems to be the best general purpose consistency and is clear, so it looks better if you end up with excess on the body.

Good idea to have a can handy when changing tires. I put a wee bit of copper slip on the hubs occasionally too, hate it when I have to give the boot to the rims

+1. Formula 3000 is great.

My fave too. I tried both RC too over the years but settled on the Rust Cure for the same reasons.

Last fall I had all the cars sprayed pro with the same product or a variation of it anyway.
