Yup at certain point I would undo bolts. take hood to body shop, pick up hood and reinstall.

true.  i'll probably install clear bra on this but when clear bra wears out, it will probably be time for some front end repaint.

Driving thrills makes my wallet lighter.. and therefore makes me faster because i'm shedding weight... :D

Ouch! Makes me happier both our cars have a fair bit of PPF

Some vehicles seem really vulnerable to chipping, others not so much

How many km on the Merc now?

Really nice work!!

I've done this a few times on a few cars..quickly.

With this tool, it's a breeze.

I use these to clean any chips:  PARUU[emoji2400] Set of 3 Scratch Brush Brass Steel Fiberglass Watch Repair Rust Clean Tool ST697 https://a.co/d/8kSufMO

And I use this for painting/touch up.

Loew-Cornell Fine Line Painting Pen https://a.co/d/6XOIqPu

Learned how to do this after watching a YouTube video of them do a Porsche going in a museum.
How fast is my 911?  Supras sh*t on on me all the time...in reverse..with blown turbos  :( ...

just above 60k km now.    most chips were small, concentrated at the front of the hood, but some big ones were scattered around the car.  biggest one was on trunk lid of all places... right on the raised edge about  2 inches in from 1 side.  that one i failed in repairing properly, might have to redo it at some point.

My earlier SLKs were very prone to chipping, worse than any other car I've owned. Combination of being low to the ground and whatever paint Merc was using in that era.

I like this idea and the others here. The Subie came out of winter with two nasty scratches on the hood, both past the ppf of course  ::) One is like 18" long and deep enough your fingernail catches it. Girls are like  ??? of course... I suspect dragging the snow brush on its side  :banghead: Never dared using sanding paper on a new car, but I think I will practice my skills on the Accent first.

The Crosstrek is mostly used by the girls these days when I have a presser or WFH (my eldest's Accent is the stay-behind - I probably drive that thing more than she does).

Just be aware paint on a new car vs an old car can be a very different thing. I made a big mess of my new motorcycle's paint once as I was used to bodywork on the hard paint of older vehicles. Found out the hard way they sand very differently  :'(  Seems funny to me now, but my heart sure sank at the time

Amazing weather today. Took the green MGB out for it's longest run yet, performed well, but did have a rear brake seize up on the way home, little smokey  ;D Turned out to be an easy fix, seized parking brake lever.

Then got the XKR out; sat since November and fired off with no issues, warnings or any other weirdness. Took it for a good top-down run with the boy....Easy to forget just how damn good that car feels, but it's nice to be reminded every spring.

After that I tinkered with the MGB some more, bunch of little fixes and improvements. Good day  :)

I put this back into service this winter. Been roughly 6000 km since it’s last oil change so I treated it to fresh oil today. Uses about 1L every 2000km now but still running well. Transmission certainly doesn’t like full throttle up shifts anymore (bit of a shudder from 1st to 2nd @ wot) but still holding together.

I’ve spent very little on this in the years I’ve owned it. For all just tuning in it’s a 2007 Dodge Grand Caravan that used to belong to FCA/Daimler and used to go from the parts depot in red deer to dealerships in Calgary and surrounding areas.

Not today but Sunday did the yearly detail on the Frontier and changed over to the summers as well.  It was the first time in recent memory that I had a stuck wheel but the one on the rear passenger side gave me lots of grief.  Tried beating it off with a mallet and a bunch of other tricks to try and break it free but the only thing that worked was applying heat.  A few seconds after blasting it with the torch it let go with a big SNAP!  I usually apply a very light film of anti-seize on the wheel mount points but might have forgotten that one, but most likely it's the cheap winter steelie that bonded to the hub.   :P

My trick.  Sit on ground and hit it with a stomp from your boot.

Another is drop it back onto the ground fast although that may endanger the lugs.

Toying with the idea of suggesting to my wife that we replace the Subaru with a gently used RX350.  Seeing lots of nice 2021/2022 with low mileage in the low $50s.  Would become the default family vehicle.  She's insistent that she wants a 6-cylinder in the her next vehicle, and I'm seeing the writing on the wall for that....

A new CR-V EX-L is $46k with freight and she doesn't want a 4-banger.  Acura dropped the lower trim MDXs so you're looking at $70k.

Took the Audi in to my buddies as there was a "click click click" noise. Thought it might be the metal zip tie on the CV (it did this last year).

Turns out heat shield rubbing ever so slightly on rotor.

While we were under, noticed the headlight leveler arm broken. Absolutely shocked no warning light about this!

Ordered a new assembly..but obviously not an OEM one.
