Yes LR4 still uses a semi metallic pad which is why most Land Rovers  have black front wheels.  ;D  I can get 2 sets of pads on those rotors (OE(Brembo) or Zimmermann) but then the rotors are too thin. Honda rotors last much longer but pads are not as aggressive. A tip on getting the rotor screw out is to tighten the screw a bit first and then loosen. Also slather some breaker spray (of your choice) and a little torch heat. If you don't have an impact then tap a driver with a mallet as you are trying to break it free. Using this method I have a 100% success rate.

As a side note for fun my Ridgeline consumes rear brake pads much faster than fronts. I attributed it to the stability control trying to reel in a prick but others have mentioned it may be just a weird brake proportioning on light stops.

^ It think it's probably a bit of both contributing to the rear pad consumption. Escalade is the same, I replace the rears 2x for every 1 set of front.

Do they use brakes for traction control?   That'll wear 'em out

Our Nissan Quest was like that. It had tiny, tiny rear brakes. Not sure if that contributed. They warped really easy too.

Yeah, they do. Traction/stability control usually leverages the brakes.

^yep!

First time I eventually got them out with an impact driver. 2nd time, just drilled them all out. The Acadia has the rotor screws as well...

I changed the rotors for the first time on the Civic at around 160,000 km and 10 years. The impact driver worked but it took a bit of effort to break them loose. Still  on the second set of pads since new.

^ Rear pads on our GS-350 wear out faster than the fronts as well.

While cleaning the GS-350 last weekend I noticed over half of the retainer clips for the engine shroud covers were missing. Many of the remaining ones are broken and won't last for much longer either.  Really shitty design and I've replaced many in the past with aftermarket ones, but they were even worse, and only one if them survived.  A few have gone missing from the under-body panels and I replaced them with cable ties but I'd like to keep reusable ones for the engine shrouds.

Think I bought the last set from Princess Auto but they were junk.  Any ideas on where I could find some decent ones?

At 35K km the Armada got full set of pads and rotors on Nissan.  Paid the 1 hour brake service charge.  At 6000 lbs. the rotors look too small for the vehicle of that weight.  Will be paying Nissan every year to do their brake service in the spring.

The Mustang has 40K km and nil wear.  IMO, the salt which is extreme in my driving area is the contributing factor; seizes the pads if your vehicle has floating pads which most do.

Dealer for push pins?? Meh. Bought a huge kit with hundreds of push pins, about 25 different styles, for about $30 off Amazon. Work fine, and when one does need replacing you’ve got many different sizes/styles at your disposal. The kit has paid for itself many times over already.
Quality is never an accident; it is always the result of high intention, sincere effort, intelligent direction, and skillful execution; it represents the wise choice of many alternatives.

That's what I have, one of those huge kits off Amazon, use it quite frequently.

There 2 kind of phillips!?  I hate those,

There are a few different drives that look like Phillips, but aren't.

If you're working on a Japanese anything, especially motorcycles, get a JIS set of screwdrivers and stop stripping screws.

Hate torx with a passion. A million different sizes, tiny little flutes, seems to do nothing that a hex doesn't do better

Apparently the original idea behind it was as an anti theft hex, as an ordinary hex bit does not work

Same, Torx sucks. Philips works for me from a function / aesthetics combo, it's just a matter of finding the right screwdriver with a nice tight fit, lots of variability between brands and such. Robertson and Hex works best, but looks terrible.

White appliance today with help from Son #2.

After reading KTM & Firm's posts on rear brakes, gave the rears a close inspection, will need to be done shortly. Definitely before we head to PEI in August.

Nice.

How many km's you have on that thing?  Pads on our MDX have a lot of life left front and rear with 125k kms.  Our '03 Pilot went to 175k km's before I did the rear.  I did the rears on the Tundra at about the same, fronts went longer.
