Brought home this for the weekend - Jesus Christ what a nice freakin' car. If I didn't have the sentimental attachment to go with the LS 460 (my wife's late grandfather's last car) and have it 100% sorted to perfection, I'd totally snap one of these up, possibly even this exact one, for a many-year daily.

I wonder what keeping this on the road long term vs the Lexus would cost?

N63v2s aren't too bad, no major problems in the long run.

LS460 AWDs with air ride however, have a bunch of problems.
-Control arms are many many monies
-Air shocks are dealer-only with no aftermarket support (Arnott does not make an air spring for the AWD application)
-Brake actuators are in the low thousands, and prone to failure
-Oil pan gaskets leak and labor time is 23 hours RWD (25 or 26h for AWD cars)

Like, the BMW would probably cost appreciably more to run, but this generation is also an entire decade (model year 2016 debut with major facelift in '20) ahead of the LS 460 that I have (model year 2007 debut, with major facelift in '13).

My general manager at CFC has an '08 750i (185k km) that's only year older, and the parts manager has a '13 750i xDrive (170k), so it'll be interesting to see long term ownership. Thus far, the '08 has cost about $3k a year in maintenance since he got it in 2020. On the flip side, he paid $4k for the car, whereas my LS was closer to $15k (120k ish when I got it, I believe).

Reach +5C today for the first time in a few weeks, so I gave both the Caddies good thorough washes, checked fluids and tire pressures, touched up oil spray, etc. Another 6 weeks or so and we should be through the worst of the winter weather.....

Went shopping iKea Ottawa this Sunday because it was closest store to have in stock the desired item, otherwise back order in Montréal & Boucherville. Drove 461.5km, burn 28.8L premium & wasted 4L windshield washer, it was almost a full time job the keep windshield clear  :P

I checked the boxes dimension before leaving home to be sure it will fit inside car, with only one rear seat down.

The Volt was hit hard on its rooftop while ridding 417 by a large piece of snow/ice flying off the top of a large pick-up space kab,. not funny
Bonus, half hour later inside iKea covered parking, my right mirror rub against a column while parking, too much distraction at that specific moment...  :(  but since someone previously hit that same mirror (and broke the light on without leaving info), I will see next spring if I keep it as is, fix or replace it.

Wife's truck had a a very loud front end clunk which was a broken sway bar end link. Common on these 2014-2018 GMC or Chevrolet trucks. This one had the top completely missing.

I had to cut this one near the base then move up the bushing and plastic cover to get the old one out.

Old one out.

Lifting the swap bar slightly with the jack helped get the new bit in.

Replaced. Did not even need to take the wheel off.

That should have you covered for at least one Valentine's  ;D

P.s. looks like this would benefit from some threadlock.

Give a man a fish, he eats for a day. Teach the man to fish and he wakes you up at 5 in the morning.

Spacer is plastic with a metal bolt in the middle. Some thread locker on there. This is apparently the revised and better design.

Gave both vehicles a good wash yesterday.  Took the car to the auto-wash and truck to the manual spray booth.  Car had a thick layer of highway crust on it after an unplanned road trip last week to Moncton during a light snowstorm.  Just enough snow to keep things messy.   Truck was almost as bad but grey hides dirt better, and it's a truck, and is basically back to the same today.  ;D

It's warmed up some so I worked on the Outback that still won't start. (it floods so badly it's almost hydrolocking, crankcase is half full of gas and oil)
Pulled the spark plugs and both rear cylinders are puffing gas, spark plugs agree these are the culprits.

But why two cylinders?

Pulled the wire connector off the one injector, gas puffs stop, so it's not just leaking constantly.  It's also not shorted to ground, which could cause this.  Gotta look up wiring and ECU diagrams

Weird. Are those two cylinders getting air?

Yeah, there isn't any fancy variable intake or anything, simple manifold.  Single throttle.  SOHC

I just thought something might have got sucked in during intake manifold removal-replacement. Rainman Ray had just pranked his channel viewers with such situation.  :P

Haha, just to be sure I had already pulled off the intake and reinstalled it again just to check if the valves were still working and nothing was blocking it....last month.
