I ran my washer fluid empty and thinking that I might have fried the pump.

Of course now the washer tank is now full.

$38 from rockauto isn't the worst.  Sucks that I replaced this one two and a half years ago. Lesson learned.

Welp.

I removed the old pump, installed the new one, filled the tank, and before testing it I noticed a rubber line was removed from a connector.

It works great but probably didn't need to be done.  Note to self, next time look for a leak before replacing the pump.

Fortunately it's cheap, and a ten minute job.

Ordered some new winter tires for the RX. Hakka 10's are out of stock already, but got some studded Michelin X Ice North 4's for what will end up at 267.00 before tax from Blackcircles.ca, vs the 353.00 the Hakka's went for from KAL tire

Mounting will be an extra 20.00 but as long they arrive fine that's a big savings

^^ different vehicles, I know, but I’ll be very curious to hear your impressions of the two.

The Hakka 10s had a couple mm more tread depth, IIRC (at least in the Crosstrek size I was looking at.) Both get great reviews, but the extra tread depth had me leaning towards the Hakkas.

Think I’ve decided not to get winters until next fall.  Still not expecting the Crosstrek until “the spring.”

Put the winters on this morning as I think the warm spell is over for a while. Usually it is Remembrance Day that gets the cold/dreary weather so it is only a couple of days behind. High of +2C for tomorrow.

Curious myself. The Hakkas are unobtainable right now so that pushed it. Don't hear much for experiences with the Michelins but they seem to test out pretty close:

https://tiresvote.com/articles/moottori-winter-studded-tire-test-size-r16-2021/

Measured 12/32 on the Hakkas on the Crosstrek, much like Blizzaks when new

The Blizzaks on the RX are going into their 6th year, still have 10/32 tread but after how good the Hakkas are on the Crosstrek thought it was time to upgrade

Studded winters coupled with Cross Climate summers on the RX should be a good combination

I used to buy my Hakkapeliittas from a friend of mine who was the parts manager at a Mazda dealership. Now that Kal Tire has sole distributorship for Nokian tires, they've become stupidly expensive while the rest of the tire world has caught up with their rubber magic goodness.  I went with Blizzak WS90s this year.  I think they'll be good!

^^^It's a fantastic tire.

I mentioned last year, when we had just picked up our new-to-us CX-5, and we had an April snowstorm, that the CX-5 was very 'playful' in the snow.  I'm not attributing that playfulness to the crappy All-Seasons that it was wearing.  Since I've put on the Blizzaks, it's as stable and surefooted as can be.  Not as 'fun', but probably better and safer.

So, this is why I wanted to do the brakes before selling the GTI. Rotors are badly pitted and rusty and look terrible.

I was actually on the Max Brakes site and ready to order, but they didn’t have the coated rotors in stock so I backed out.

Kinda glad I didn’t, now that I’ve had a closer look today. Yeah, rotors are ugly, but the brakes work fine. All the pads are wearing evenly and still have heaps of material left. I cleaned and lubed all the sliders (rears didn’t even need it) and will call it good. New owner can put on some shiny drilled and slotted rotors for show if he wants.  :P

I just have some rust touch ups to do now. Nothing fancy, just a quick and dirty fix to make it look decent from ten feet. Okay, maybe twenty. :)

I had Max Brakes drilled and slotted and coated rotors on the Cayenne, they rusted badly.    I have the same on my pickup courtesy of the previous owner, they're pretty damn rusty too.
AFAIK, their anti-rust coating is paint.
Maybe for a summer vehicle, but not for year round IMO

The coated powerstop rotors on my Civic and my wife's Acadia all still look great, the oldest being almost 5 years old.

HVAC blower wouldn't run on the pickup, remembered it hasn't since the summer, but hardly used it and of course now I need it.

Anyhow, it's relatively new, took it out and it's really hard to turn, sprayed cleaner and lube down a vent on the motor housing and it must have reached the bearing, runs fine now.
I think rain gets in by the same vent at times, probably not an issue if you use it regularly.  Anyhow, drilled a small hole in the bottom plastic to hopefully drain it should it leak again.

Nice.  I put Powerstops on the Frontier around this time last year and no regrets.

Was at the Lexus dealer today picking up some replacement rubbers for the wiper blades on the GS-350 and they had no cars in the showroom and lot was empty.  Mentioned this to the parts guy and he said they don't expect anything in until well into 2023.  Felt like a morgue in there.  :o

Oth, this was the first time I've replaced the rubbers and likely the first time they've ever been replaced.  I noticed a few months ago that the driver's side was starting to tear toward the end but kept forgetting to pick up new ones.  Car has well over 160k on it now so got good life out of them if they're original.  Car had only 42k when I bought it and I highly doubt the dealer changed them out before putting it for sale.

PowerStops are really quite nice, fair price too, and available through CTC (just sayin.....). I installed them on a CTC truck that we built back in 2017, the truck is still around, and the brakes still look new (probably <10K on them, but they've been in the weather year-round).

Strange, just tried checking the CTC price for the Z36 kit I bought from RA but can't get past drive type in the selection criteria.  Sup with that?

Yeah, there's some IT glitch where if the system prompts you for multiple pieces of supplementary vehicle info (engine size, drive type, trim level, etc) within the product page, on the second criteria the options won't load so you can't progress......Very frustrating and I've flagged this to the team accountable multiple times, including earlier this week.....The joys of selling auto parts through a web platform built for gen merch.
