^^ Yeah, I’m not too fussy about a utility vehicle like that. Function over form!

But my wife drives it too, and I’m not so sure she’d be as keen on the bedliner look. But, was just checking out the Calgary Line-X website and see they’ve done lots of nice work. Would be nice to cover the fenders and rocker panels without it looking too hillbilly.

Honestly I'd rock an older truck covered 100% in black or dark grey Line-X.

The Line-X thing is great for trucks that see a lot of abuse to the exterior paint from rocks, sand, etc...Western trucks, trucks that see a lot of gravel road use, etc. The problem is Line-X does nothing to prevent rusting from the inside out, which in the Salt provinces, is the biggest issue. Rocker panels, door bottoms, etc are still going to rot from the inside out just like they always have.
Line-X, then regular oil spray treatments would be the best way to protect a truck you really wanted to keep together.

For sure, here out east I think you’re bonkers if you don’t do regular rust prevention. If you’re not leasing it, rust proof it.

I think I’ll take it for an estimate, just to see. I plan on keeping the beast forever, so might be worth it to get a proper fix. But is there ever such a thing as a proper fix for rust on an 11-year-old vehicle? If I spend several thousand, I’d expect at least five rust-free years out of it. Maybe I’m dreaming.

A properly executed fix should last 5 years, no problem. That said, some of it is on the owner to maintain....Keep it clean when possible, keep it waxed, and for areas that trap water (like the gap between the plastic bumper and the fender) shoot some rust preventing oil (Formula 300, Fluid Film, Krown, etc) in there a few times a year.

I've kept a lot of older vehicles static (or nearly so) with rust by keeping them oily. The oil has to penetrate to good metal, so may need some scraping first, then a lighter fluid to penetrate. Cover with a heavier greasy material after that will hold up over time and things don't really change

For visible surfaces that need paint, sanding/grinding down to good metal, then etching with acid before painting pretty much cures it, or just use POR. The problem is usually rust creeping in through the back, but that's where the oil comes in

We have a nice driveway (decorative gravel) and I really don’t want to cover it with oil stains from dripping underspray.  :-\

Isn't that the beauty of gravel? Get a stain, just kick the gravel around some and it's gone.
I had a big roll of vapor barrier, when I get the cars oil sprayed I lay down a piece and park on that for a week or so. After a week the drips are basically done.

That said, my driveway (asphalt with interlock extension/border) is a mess anyway from years of car repairs....So I am not that fussy about it. When it gets really bad I lay down another coat of asphalt sealer.

Not that decorative!  ;D

I think they also call it landscape rock? Just looks nicer that your average washed rock, or whatever the usual gravel driveway stuff is.

It’s this stuff: https://soilkings.com/products/20mm-rundle-rock/

You can oil your truck for free if you drive down those newly treated secondary roads. Nice tar coating especially in the wheel wells. Cost $0 but you don get it on the paint.  ;D

If you don’t get it on the paint, it’s only because you weren’t trying hard enough. ;)

If you really want to screw up your gravel, spill some POR on it  :D

The only time dripping oil made a mess for me is the one time I got the whole truck Krowned. Dripped for like a week. Was not impressed with the rust prevention qualities either, it seemed far too light, like dipping the vehicle in diesel fuel

Targeted spraying myself into just the rust prone areas (inner wheelwell creases, door bottom insides, brake and fuel lines etc with light stuff didn't cause much issue, especially as covered them with heavy spray after (Castrol chain lube works great).

Then after it's just a matter of topping off the heavy grease coating yearly

My wife's admin bought a 2011 Mustang 5.0 Boss 302 convertible as a retirement gift to herself.  Took possession this week.  What a beast.  I like how she rolls.

Boss wasn't made as a convertible.

GT500 perhaps?
