Yeah your right about JIS heads on the civic. I did get the impact screwdriver to work on the civic once, it was equal or more work than just drilling them out. YMMV. I tried the impact screwdriver today as well, no luck.

I actually bought a 2lb sledge with a short handle the other day just for those situations. Gotta do rear brakes on the Slade soon and I guarantee those rear rotors are seized to the hub.

That is the other key. Love those stubby sledges both to hit the impact with authority and to knock off the rotors. Handy around the yard too

I’m pretty sure I wrecked the GTI’s rear wheel bearings by pounding on the rotors to get them off.

If I were to buy a tool to do this again, it would be a big puller, not a sledgehammer.

Was going to do the back brakes on the Prius but couldn't find my caliper rewind tool.

So I called local mechanic who I'm friendly with to see if I could borrow his for an hour.

He says "No"...but if I bring the car by he'll do the brakes for $50.

In an out in an hour.

How fast is my 911?  Supras sh*t on on me all the time...in reverse..with blown turbos  :( ...

Yesterday I had to go into the office, made the commute in the SLK. Happy to say it made the trek without incident...As far as cheap cars go, this is a really good one. It feels at home in the city too, nice for darting around traffic and navigating tight streets.

Today I brought the T/A home from storage, I don't have enough parking here so I swapped it out with the DTS for now. As expected, no issues from this one, feel good to be behind the wheel of an old F-body again too....it's been awhile.

Oh, and I put new gas struts on the Escalade rear hatch...The OE units were getting soft (though they still held the hatch up fine). I had a new set of StrongArms (from work), they were worse than OE, so I ended up buying a set of Stabilus. They appear to be very nice quality.

You have an amazing fleet.

The Corolla's OEM horn was on its way out, so I had it replaced with Fiamm's El Grande hi-lo horns.

This 22 second video accurately portrays the difference in sound.

Sounds much better. Is it also louder?

Yes, but that's likely because the oem horn was beginning to weaken.

Nice, FIAMM horns are the best. I managed that category for CTC briefly years ago and worked with FIAMM, they're a really solid company who put a ton of R&D into their products.

Spent the morning detailing the Escalade interior....lotta space to cover, lol. Emptied everything, vacuumed, wiped everything down, did the glass, leather cleaner & conditioner, and then put everything back in, including the new baby seat.

For the afternoon I pulled the wheels off the SLK and thoroughly cleaned them (including the backsides), polished out any stains, waxed them, etc. Then painted the calipers and the rotor hats. Huge difference.

Before:

After:

Yes....Whatever tire shine I used (random aerosol from work, I didn't pay attention to the brand) - not good.

Oh, and my brother stopped by with my dad's old 95 STS. Back on the road with fresh tires and a new alternator (apparently that sucked  :rofl2:). It hadn't been properly on the road since late 2018. Checked the kms, 312K, original paint, original head gaskets.

Looks fantastic! Lots of real estate inside a big SUV, eh?

For shine/protecting, I've been using Chemical Guys VRP (Vinyl, Rubber, Plastic) bought at CDN Tire.

It's nice stuff that leaves a nice matte finish.

I was using some Lucas brand interior detailer....decent stuff, smells nice. I have boxes of that sorta thing as the merch team at work for cleaning products know I am into this stuff, so they send all their old samples and whatnot and I provide feedback. Hard to go wrong with Chemical Guys stuff though.

Yea, I ran out of Poor Boys stuff and the VRP is highly regarded in detailing circles.

Nice product so far.

Have switched to their Mr. Pink soap in my foam cannon too

Interesting STS color.

If memory serves it's Polo green (and usually looks much darker than the photo represents). I remember when my parents were shopping for it, I would've been around 6-7 years old and really got into learning all the different color options and whatnot. Forgot most of it now, but there was one other green (hunter green maybe?) that was much more teal - mom hated it.

I loved the green they released for the C5...Fairway Green.

Almost bought a C5 with that color I liked it so much.

Come to find out it's one of the rarest Vette colors.

Did the rear brakes with my neighbor friend on his Passat today. Next front brakes on my other neighbor friend Passat. LOL ...Three  Passat TDI in the close circle of friends on the street. Brake jobs are cookie cutter now....
Need to get my arse in gear and start working on my cars.... Until now I just bought parts for BMW but not real work.
