Man, as nice as that BMW is (and it really is) it is sure making a case for just getting a Camry.  Glad you're getting it sorted though.

Nah... it's not the car it's me and to a certain extent Rockauto with their tempting prices...

New alternator, battery and blow by heater (the part that went up in smoke a month ago) installed on the BMW. All electrical bits now work as they should from the get go, even in the cold weather that we had this morning.

Tonight I'm planning to replace the low/high beam HID bulbs (one side is burnt but will replace both sides).

Shopping for a power steering pump (OE equivalent) but it looks like BMW switched the supplier some time ago from Luk to S-Tec (a Magna company in Austria which makes some other parts for BMW and other Euro cars) and the supply is nil in both US and Canada (online distributors for BMW parts that I usually check). Luk definitely shows the part as discontinued.

There are some other cheaper alternatives by a company named AAE that everyone sells but I would like to go with the "original" even if it's more expensive.
BMW OEM is out of question though as they ask around $1000 for it....

I'm wondering if anyone has direct access to WorldPAC Canada to check if they have any stock left and eventually a price (I have P/Ns for both Luk and S-Tec)?

Any decent parts house that has an active account with WorldPAC should be able to...Most PartSource stores do, as to most independent part retailers. WorldPAC doesn't sell direct to the public so you need to go through a retailer of some sort.

I know they don't sell to the public hence my question to the forum members. Also, I don't want to inquire with a shop since I know I'm not going to jump on it immediately.
On the other hand, I thought someone here may have online access and few min to burn without any obligation... It's for my information only at this point but if I were to find one at a decent price I would probably jump on it to have it handy.

Cool, good to know it's not FGC'ing you to death.  So this is you being extra picky?

I guess you can say that... :)

I like my cars to be in near perfect mechanical and cosmetic state (what's in my power of course) regardless the age and I don't tolerate any foreign noises, stuff that doesn't work 100% as it should, parts that are broken, worn or about to die - I prefer to replace them at the first signs. Things like that...

I didn't plan to baby this car like this, but as I was going through it I realized it's in a much better shape than I thought it would be, especially for the price, and I fell in love with how it drives and how it feels so now I'm compelled to make it "like new" as much as possible and keep it for the foreseeable future.

I hope this impulse will pass at some point once the honeymoon is over... LOL.

Replaced both headlight lamps in the wife's Acadia. Trying out some chineseum LED lamps from amazon. Beam pattern seems pretty decent in the halogen projectors and are decently bright. They have built in fans for cooling, we'll see how long they last...

Also have a set of replacement Hella halogen lamps in case these go bad quickly.

Bought some for my wife’s Yukon. Lights are bright, but one is already noisy. I imagine the fan is failing. Had them since October.

Replaced the low/high beam bulbs on the BMW. Went with Philips (from Rockauto) - the same as the ones I took out from the car. Not difficult but time consuming....

Nice car!

Choosing a car based on reliability is like choosing a wife based solely because she is punctual. There is more to it than that...

Nice car!

Ha!  Burn.

That does look good.

Ordered a new hatch support strut for the Golf.  The passenger side one did not like being used at -30 and blew a seal.  $35 shipped from Rockauto.  Cheaper than the dealer.

Good looking cover Fob.

I put a new battery in the Escalade on Saturday, it was starting to sound a bit 'weak' when cranking over for a few days, I put it on a charger overnight thinking the battery might have just been run down but it was still weak. Tested it and it only tested to around 300CCA. 7 years on a NorthStar Pure Lead AGM is not bad I guess...but not super impressive for a battery that retails for $450 (vs. a standard flooded replacement at $150). I went with an Eliminator AGM from CTC for $230.

I while I had the charger out I also charged the DTS and the SLK, both have been sitting in the driveway untouched for 2 weeks.

Pulled the rear axle out. Swapping in the MG B axle I bought a few months ago. I think I can use the stock springs and convert to gas shocks (had lever arm shocks). The axle perches might need to moved a bit but its going to be closer.

"Fixed" the MX-5 with some red tape.

Same here. Opened the hatch at minus 30 a couple weeks ago and heard the seal blow and all the gas escape.

Driver’s side on mine, but figured I’d replace both. $51 from Rockauto. Still haven’t installed them, but I’ve been out of town and the car’s been parked.
