Fantastic!

Did you get a cool loaner?

Not this time, but my shuttle home yesterday was in a BMW 135, and the ride back to the shop was in a Lexus RX in a lovely shade of red.

I didn't want to go to Mazda to get bent over

So, you went to see TheFirm to get bent over?   :-X  :rofl2:

Shut up, Sneaker Boy.   ;D :rofl2:

TheHire (Firm is a different person, by the way) was extremely reasonable compared to a dealer.  I'm also happy to give my money to small businesses rather than large dealerships.

Corrected.  Sneaker Boy!  lol

If I lived close to his business, no question I'd go there.

Miss Peanut got to meet TheHire and his team yesterday, and she spent the night, too.  ;D

Long overdue oil/filter change, and headlight assembly replacement due to a known condensation issue (warranty ended March 2020).  I didn't want to go to Mazda to get bent over, and I had been looking for a new indie shop after that loose tire debacle two years ago.  TheHire's shop is only 4 km from my house!  Win/win.

Beautiful place with lovely, professional people.  And I got to see the lair.   It was wonderful to meet yet another member of the Autos.ca family in person, even with masks and distance.

Thanks for the visit! Still truly humbling to see how many members of this forum have trusted me with their precious vehicles. It's easy for friends and family to have that trust in my team, but for most of you guys, I'm just a j*rk behind a keyboard... it's great to have made so many new friends!

And Brig - great to meet you and put a face to the name after all! Next time you visit I'll have the 335i loaner ready for ya!

You sealed your fate when you bought Snowy's S2000.

Oh yeah, Brig saw that today too and pretty much gave it a hug.  :)

Only with my eyeballs!  I’ve been trained not to touch the paint on works of art.   ;D   She’s lovely.  I had only ever met and driven RutRo.  I think Snowy almost peed his pants laughing at me when I released the clutch in first and almost shot across the road.  That WRX was a beast.

At the Mitsu dealer for an oil change on the Outlander...

They don't have a single new car in the lot. Even the used car lot only has few cars... Pretty depressing picture.

Mitsu hasn't had a single new relevant car to sell in years though, so it's not too unsurprising...

double negative  :P so it was surprising?  ;D
If driving an Alfa does not restore vitality to your soul, then just pass the hospital and park at the morgue to save everyone time.

Now drives a Jaaaaaaag...and thus will not pay for anything during an outing...but it is OK, because....I drive a Jaaaaaag.

Took the Yukon to a local muffler shop to get a hole in the exhaust fixed. Never been there before, but they seem decent and the Google reviews are great. While I was there, I discovered that they are a full-service shop, not just mufflers. Great, nice to have a local indie for stuff instead of having to go to the dealer.

But then I saw the sign on the wall: Shop Rate $130/hr. Huh, pretty sure that's the same as the dealer.

So I asked them to give me a quote on a couple of leaking/weeping oil lines that I'll need to deal with sooner or later. Their quote was $1,570 vs $1,450 from the GM dealer. Guess I'll just stick with the dealer.

That's not ok!

The Refull Adblue warning came up on the Golf today.  First time I've seen it in 4.5 years.  I've been refilling it at random intervals so far, I guess I stretched the last one too far.  Basically after 2400 km the car will no longer start until it's refilled.  I'll do it tonight since I'm heading out.

Well, I don't begrudge the shop their money. If they're good, and can stay busy while charging top dollar, good for them. If that's the going rate, so be it.

There aren't really a lot of options in town, and driving an hour and a half to the city to maybe save a few bucks is a huge PITA.

Could also be that your Dealership rates are reasonable.  Which would be new.

Shop rates are going up everywhere even Indy shops, just like all other industries now. Our dealership charges $155/hr. And we earn it.

Point is they have ZERO stock regardless of market relevance of their cars which has nothing to do with the situation. I have never seen the lot absolutely empty like it was yesterday in all the years I went there.
My buddy told me they sold every single car they had, including the managers cars, the loaners, floor units.... Now they are simply taking deposits for future delivery.

It must suck to be a salesperson whose livelihood depends on making commissions, and not have any product to sell.

Yep, and the same applies to my local VW dealership few weeks ago. New car lot had exactly ONE car - a Tiguan with a sold sign on it.
