Our local Ford dealer has NOTHING on the lot for F-150's.  The GMC lot has few GM trucks, but a pretty good number of used F-150's.

Local GM/Chevy dealer has 12 used and 27 new - with 3 full size trucks, 1-2500 and 2 1500s.  Probably a quarter of what they normally stock or less, they'd normally have upwards of 25 trucks on the lot.

they don't have a single new car on the lot - showroom had one car... an NC MX-5.

Don't think ppl fully understand the gravity of the problem.  The shortages are immense.

2011 Fusion Sport...$12,500.

 ;D :rofl2:

That might be your asking price, but you'd be lucky to get $10k.

I took the Mazda to my indy for its first oil change in my care.  $100 taxes in for 0W20 synthetic and a WIX filter.

These guys are SO busy, they're booking two weeks out for oil changes.  I initially had it booked for two weeks ago, but then completely forgot about it on the day I was supposed to take the car in.  Had to call the next day, apologize for not showing up, and then rebook another two weeks out.  If the sign of a good mechanic is how busy they are, then these guys are tops!

During their inspection they called out the serpentine belt is starting to look a little cracked.  They didn't recommend replacing it just yet, just to keep an eye on it over the next couple of services.  Makes sense for a car with 72 000kms, I think.

No.  I didn't need it.  I may have also been off my rocker a little bit when I said that...  :-X

I dunno. GTI is still on the original serpentine belt at eleven years and 180,000 km. Same with the Yukon at 240,000 km. I was thinking maybe I should just replace them as a preventative measure, but I can't see anything wrong with them so think I'll just leave them be for now.

I'm not 100% sure, but don't think I ever replaced the serpentine belt on the Civic when I had it, and I think I sold that at around 300,000 km. I did do a couple of timing belt changes on it, though.

I'm on 86k in the Subaru and 135k in the Pilot, original serpentine belts on both.

Changed the Vibe twice already, only 220k but it's almost 20 years old now. Gets pretty checked and hardens with age

Not an expensive or tough thing to do on that Toyota 1.8 once you know how it goes (the youtube was a godsend), and if it breaks it would be a problem, no water pump

I did the Tundra serpentine at around 210k when I did the idler and tensioner pulleys.  It had some cracking, but all used belts seem to have cracking.  There were no signs of missing belt material.

I have a spare for the MDX in the hatch compartment.  Thinking I should change it for preventative measures since I have it and keep the old one as a spare.  Swapping is super easy.  Get a 14mm socket on the tensioner pulley to relieve tension and slip it off.  All accessible without removing anything.  Reverse process for getting it on.
Quality is never an accident; it is always the result of high intention, sincere effort, intelligent direction, and skillful execution; it represents the wise choice of many alternatives.

Yeah. Cheap enough to replace proactively for peace of mind. I replaced mine on the Outlander at around 160-165K when I did the timing belt and water pump along with all the pullies. Also replace it on the BMW when I got the car at 179K. It looked OK but since I had no history when it was replaced, if ever, I did it anyway. On that car is a breeze to replace it (10-15 min tops) and the belt is normally under $50. Not worth to risk a broken belt when you expect it less.

The GTI had 13 years and 311,000 km on its serpentine belt when I got rid of it.

I find in a FWD car the belt is usually well protected from the elements and therefore holds up pretty well. In a RWD/AWD setup with a longitudinal mounted engine it's more exposed the elements and takes more of a beating.....in the 96 Firebird I had to replace it every couple years because it was wide open and a lot of dirt would get on it, which would wear it out rather quickly.

Odyssey's belt was done this fall for 159$ parts and labor at a Honda dealer. No wear visible, but the rubber had hardened and it was sqealing on humid mornings.

Hmmm, I was just thinking, I've only ever had one car/truck with a transverse engine setup, a Probe GT.   Every thing else has been longitudinal.
Anyhow, I just put a new V-belt on Roxie's alternator, old one was missing some bits and pretty hard.

Miss Peanut got to meet TheHire and his team yesterday, and she spent the night, too.  ;D

Long overdue oil/filter change, and headlight assembly replacement due to a known condensation issue (warranty ended March 2020).  I didn't want to go to Mazda to get bent over, and I had been looking for a new indie shop after that loose tire debacle two years ago.  TheHire's shop is only 4 km from my house!  Win/win.

Beautiful place with lovely, professional people.  And I got to see the lair.   It was wonderful to meet yet another member of the Autos.ca family in person, even with masks and distance.
