Wouldnt you got more if you sold privately? ![Huh ???](https://www.autos.ca/forum/Smileys/CarTalk/huh.gif)
Probably, yes. Maybe an additional $3-4k. I would have had to detail the truck (or have it detailed), get it safetied (wouldn't have required anything, but still gotta get it safetied), then deal with a million phonecalls of people, some of whom wouldn't show, some of whom would just want to take it for a joyride, some of whom would lowball me anyway. Nah, I ain't got the time nor the patience for that.
I took it to The Car Store who we have a history of dealing with - we bought the Altima, Grand Caravan, and lately, the Mazda3 from them. They offered $45k, I countered with $49k, and we settled at $47k. They cut me a cheque that day. I was more than happy with the process and the price.
I had gone into it having researched all the prices of Tundras in the area. There were some outliers, like a '19 Limited for $67k

Those trucks had been posted for quite some time, so obviously weren't selling. I felt like a fair asking price on a private sale would have been $52k, negotiable down to $49-50k.
For example: Here is an '18 TRD Sport with 62k kms for $48 990:

The Platinum would have been $25k more expensive than my truck when new.
