The R171 SLK styling has aged very well IMO, especially the AMG models. I like it more now than when it came out.

One of my co-workers just picked up a new to her car - a 2016 VW Tiguan Highline with 120k kms.  It's a very nice little vehicle, from back when VW was at the top of their game with regards to interiors.  She and her husband picked it up as a second vehicle - they have a VW Atlas 2.0T that they bought new a few months ago.  SHE wanted to get a car as a second vehicle, as they live far out of town and they both have a fairly long highway commute to get into the city.  But her husband was convinced he wanted something with AWD, so they were looking at CUV's.

I feel like that era in general is a bit of a low point for Mercedes styling.

Same - probably the only era of Benz that I actually really like, from a styling perspective at least. Exception would be the late 80's 560SEC AMG, I've always loved that. Otherwise, the older boxy styling doesn't do much for me, and the current 'choose the size/shape of your blob' lineup is just terrible. Again, with a few exceptions....I had an E450 Cabriolet presser a few weeks ago and the styling was perfect for what it is (a big luxo boulevard cruiser)

After driving FWDs for years and the occasional RWD, I agree with wanting AWD in our Canadian climate. Definitely not "needed" but with my STI at least, sure makes driving in winter way more fun. Also, more confidence inspiring, which can lead to more recklessness for some, but I know my limitations even if I haven't reached the car's. One of the reasons we went with the MDX is not just that it has AWD (all our options were), but it has a really good AWD system.

Wait, VW was at the top of their game in 2016? 2016 has become a recent classic? FML I am getting old, I consider 2016 new.

Both low beams are out on the Tundra.  My initial thought was "oh great, what's the chances that both beams go out at the same time, hopefully its not hard to diagnose".  Mrs BC's response was "How often have you been driving at night? One beam could have been out for months or year and you didn't notice and now the other one went out".  She's a smart person, love that lady.

So I removed the bulbs (takes about 10 seconds each on the truck) and tested the voltage at each socket.  Voila, 12V at each one.  Both bulbs are toast.  I guess 14 years isn't bad.  The only vehicle I've ever changed a headlight on was a '01 Prelude and it was about 15 years old.

Well, as far as the Tiguan is concerned.  It's the previous gen Tiguan, and so still has the nice, classic VW upscale interior.  The new Tiguan (and Atlas, Jetta etc) went downmarket.

It's actually impressive how 'small' the Tiguan is.  She parked next to my Mazda3 today, and I'd say the Tiguan is no larger than the 3.  It's taller, for sure, but as far as length/width is concerned, it looks pretty darn close.  It actually looks shorter than my 3.  Cargo area in the two is pretty similar, too.

I'm just looking it up now:

The Tiguan's O/A length is 174.5" compared to the 3's 175.6".
Wheelbase on the Tiguan is 102.5" compared to the 3's 106.3"
Tiguan's width is 71.2" compared to the Mazda3 at 70.7"
The Tiguan is a full 10" taller than the 3, though, at 67.1" compared to 57.3"
Tiguan's cargo volume with seats up is 23.8 cu.ft. compared to the 3's 20.2 cu.ft.  Must be the extra height of the Tiguan that offers up the extra cargo volume, because the actual floor area looked very similar.

She seems to have gotten a good deal on it, too.  $15k for a 2016 with 120k kms, from a private sale.  The original owner lived in Steinbach, so she's thinking the vehicle did a bunch of highway commuting to/from Winnipeg each day, hence the higher kilometers.  That's what I paid for my Mazda3, btw, but with double the kms.  It's a whole lot more vehicle, though, having the engine from the GTI, AWD, and a fully loaded leather interior.

Went to Area 27 for the last two days to open up my Camaro a bit more. VIMC was good for me to learn, but Area 27 has some nice long straights for that LT1 engine to sing and hit 200+ kph.

I ran into the grass twice on the first day. Took a hairpin and another corner way too fast. Things went very well on the second day when the even organizer showed me how to take each corner. Even had some fun trying to keep up with a C8 Z51.

Oh, and they use Camaro's as their track fleet. There are a lot of SS 1LE there and even a few ZL1 1LE.
