Yes slant six powered. And technically its a 1960 Valiant V200-when Valiant was its own line and not yet a Plymouth.
Good thing I ran around in it-leaking heater core and about a million leaks in the rad. Going to have to find a donor radiator as it really is not fixable.

Any slant six rad would be sufficient, but finding the right width could be a challenge.

Yesterday caught up on a bit of maintenance on the Caddies...Oil changes, air filters and a cabin filter (DTS only, Escalade doesn't have one), plus greased all the chassis grease points (Escalade has a ton).

Today we took the Escalade for another run to the beach. Mrs.Firm's family has a cottage on Georgian Bay, about 30 minutes drive along the coast line north from Wasaga Beach...Decided to visit the local public beach for lunch, Balm Beach which is just a few minutes away. This was a favorite spot for us when we were younger, if Wasaga was too crowded this was a great quieter alternative. 4-5 years ago it was going through some rough times, and a lot of the shops closed, but it seems to have rebounded well...A nice new restaurant/bar, reno'd public washrooms, etc.

Got a couple shots of the truck by the Bay.

Cawaja is actually where ours is. I believe the family originally had a place there back in the 70's, the kids (3 brothers, one being my FIL) inherited the place in the early 2000's, and sold it to buy a lot on the water (the old one I think was a few minutes walk to the water). They own a construction company and build a really nice place on that lot, maybe 10-15 years ago. Seems to be a very Ukrainian little pocket (Mrs.Firm's family is Ukrainian).

Brought it in for an oil change and a new battery.

And what did they say? (a little odessa humour for you)  ;D

 ;)

When they called to say the oil/filter change and battery were done, they mentioned that according to the service manual, it is due for new spark plugs.  The car runs fine - I've never noticed any performance issues re: loss of power or decreased fuel efficiency.  It's been fed premium fuel ever since I have owned it.  Anyway, I declined to get the new plugs today.  The car is due for a new timing belt and all the trimmings that go with that job (water pump, etc.) next summer, so I figure when the engine is all apart for that procedure, they can change the plugs as well.

It's an inline 5 isn't it? Are plugs visible or hidden under the intake manifold? Iridium plugs do last "forever" though.

First service on the  '16 S4, bought last year with 38k now just over 50k. I was expecting just the air / oil / pollen filters as per 55k schedule, but given age (in service Aug '15) they did the 85k service which also meant spark plugs, serp belt and brake fluid flush.

Glad I decided to buy AudiCare with the car, it was $1200 but covered the above and the next 2 services and I'm guessing just this one would have been close to $1200, maybe $900 at an Indy?

Seems early to need plugs?

Agree, factory schedule is 85k kms or every 6 yrs. The car is 6 yrs old, but with only 50k km's I doubt it needed them. More a case of do it now as it is covered by Audicare so I don't need to worry about them for another 6 yrs.

Cool, yeah, if you're not paying out of pocket then by all means let them service that kind of stuff early!

Made final payment on the STI

congrats!

on another tpic, last week, my car broke down on my way home from somewhere?  office i think.  anyway.

towed it back home, and it had CEL on, with crank position sensor code.  sure.  i can probably do that.

so i did.  today.  everyone on the forum seemed to say it is hard to access the screw holding it, cuz it's underneath the sensor.  ..i had the shop mirror out, and with my skinny arms and hand, took it out in less than 1/2 hour...  hmm.. that was too easy.

ok, i'll put the new one in.  put the screw back in, and to tighten it i connect the extender and the wrench,  and it slips my hand...  now the e8 socket and extender is sitting pretty on the bottom of engine bay tray and i can't find my freaking shop magnet...   ah hell...  i'll finish it tomorrow.

Driving thrills makes my wallet lighter.. and therefore makes me faster because i'm shedding weight... :D

I have done more tracking on my SS 1LE recently and have been getting better times consistently. When I first went to VIMC last year, I could only do 1:35 but now with some help from the HPDE session I attended, was able to shave times off to 1:28.5. Good to always see improvements.

But with that tracking, I also needed to do more maintenance. Changed out the trans fluid and diff fluid last week. The trans gets to 90 degrees Celsius on the track which is pretty toasty. Diff fluid was a little dirty, but not nearly as horrible as it was during the break-in period.

Also changed out the brake fluid. I was cheap and used Motul DOT 5.1 which is a good fluid but shows its limits on the track. With a two-day open tracking experience coming up at Area 27, I upgraded to Motul RBF 600, which means I can push the brakes a bit more. We will see how that goes.

Dang UJX, shaving close to 7 seconds off a lab?  that's huge improvements!

congrats.  i can imagine the amount of maintenance it add to a car if you track it regularly.

did you switch out the brake pads as well?

finished switching out the Crank position sensor, my stupid magnet didn't work, so had to lift the car and crawl underneath to fish out the socket.  super clean underneath.  was nice.  and also changed the cam position sensor.  stupid retention tab broke on the cam sensor plug, so made a little harness with zip ties and zipped them together.  looks pretty good if i say so myself, and reusable too.   took it around the block, no CEL anymore.  i'll have to wipe down the car a little, cuz the tow driver's gloves left some black dusty handprints all over my white car.  oh, and hit 60k km last week.  haha.

that v8 rumble going around the block still makes me smile.

The Camaro had a pull to the left under panic braking conditions - I figured it was either a flex line that was restricted inside or a bad caliper (though neither seemed seized), plus the rotors had some pitting from sitting (it did spend 12 years mostly sitting prior to this summer). So I did a complete brake rebuild on the front end...new rotors, wheel bearings (old GM design where the wheel bearings are inside the rotor), calipers, flex lines, pads, hardware, etc. I planned ahead and packed the bearings and installed them into the rotors the night before, and I'd been soaking the connection of the steel line to the flex line in PB Blaster all week as I was really worried about breaking the steel line.

Fortunately, it went smoothly, everything came apart easy, bled easily, and it only took me about 2.5 hours so I was done before the mid-day heat picked up. Nice straight braking now, fresh brakes just feel good.

I've put close to 500km on it in the last 6-weeks or so. That's probably about 5x the amount it's done in the last 12 years....Aside from the brakes, fluids and a good Seafoam treatment, I haven't done anything else. For an old car that's seen 320K Ontario kms, and then spent 12 years laid up, I'd say that's pretty good.

One benefit of the stupid heat/humidity we've had is that the evenings are perfect for top-down cruising, so we've been taking a lot of after-dinner drives with Firm Jr in the Jag.

Great job on the brakes.

Always nice to see Firm Jr.  :)
