I use those sunshades a lot in the summer, not the custom ones, I just get the universal units from CTC, they come in a few different sizes and I've generally been pretty happy with the fit. Definitely saves the dashboards from getting fried, and makes it a lot more pleasant to get in the car and it's not a million degrees inside. Escalade is in the sun most of the day, but with dark tint all around and the sunshade up it stays surprisingly cool inside - being white in color helps too I am sure.

I looked at off the shelf, but the windshield shape in the Prius would have been a shabby fit.

Also...this is really thick.  There is foam sandwiched on the inside.   And the black exterior finish on the side facing the interior is soft to the touch.   Apparently, you flip it in the winter and the black side faces out towards the sun.  Nice seam all around the edge, too.

Will it block better than an off the shelf one?  Beats me...but probably in this situation due to the perfect fit.

I think your windshield might be similar in shape to my civic. Its incredibly long but relatively narrow. I tried a number of the off the shelf sunshades and none of them were even close to fitting. I ordered a custom fit one from ebay when my car was new and it is still in good shape today. It works quite well to keep the inside cooler.

I can't believe how many people here use sunshades.  I didn't think it was that large of a percentage of the population.

I realize they're popular in the States where it gets a lot hotter, didn't think they were that popular in the Great White North.

It's not.  They're rare, but this is a car forum.  I would reckon that more members on this forum wash their vehicles more frequently than the general population.

Ordered 2 of these last night and arriving tomorrow.  Amazon ... it's a monster.   Oddly no sales tax.  Must be Chinese made.

https://www.amazon.ca/MATCC-Removable-Chenille-Microfiber-Supplies/dp/B082F3MRVY/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=MATCC+62%27%27+Car+Wash+Mop+Car+Wash+Brush&qid=1622511252&sr=8-3

Awesome, AS.

I'd shoot the car with a foam cannon, hit it quickly with one of those..rinse...and DONE.

^^ Been a while since I did mine . I think I used a fabric glue that you spray on, contact cement spray adhesive.
When I do a search on the 3M adhesive a Permatex product comes up at Canadian tire. https://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/permatex-weatherstrip-adhesive-yellow-80br-59-ml-0383746p.html

 Maybe that would work.

I'd probably give that a try...I even looked in the CTC system to see if I could find a few units of 80119 hanging around in a store or warehouse, but I am not getting any hits on the number at all.

I had (have) a similar issue with 3M Super 77 spray adhesive...it's by far the best stuff for headliner jobs. When I did the Vette a month or so ago I couldn't find any anywhere, CTC has it but any store within a reasonable distance was out of stock with no ETA...Amazon didn't have it, Wal-mart, Tractor Supply etc. I got lucky and my dad had half a can that was enough to do my job....But now I owe him a can.... Super annoying when the hardest part of a job is just getting the damn materials.

Haha, I have two big cans of 3M Super 77 sitting here on a shelf

I sent a message to Robbins asking for advice, still haven't heard back from 3M Canada.

So, 3M called me.  08011 and 80119 have been discontinued and any stock is too old.   08008 is the new product for automotive, but an industrial product, 4799 seems to match up better as it's for EPDM rubber.
Still waiting to hear back from Robbins.

Over the weekend I finally got around to getting the Sonoma and Mrs.Firms Firebird started for the season. Both of them started up problem free and went out on long drives in both with no issues....The beauty of fairly simple old GMs I guess. With that came the big garage and sheds seasonal cleanup, so I was able to free up a lot of space, garage feels slightly less claustrophobic now. Nice to be in full 'summer mode' again too.

My usual parking arrangement has the Sonoma on the bottom on the red Firebird on the top, but I had changed it up for a couple days (was using the Sonoma) so grabbed a photo of the two birds.

Got a new windshield for the JK on Friday, kinda funny, had the same guy I've had for three years. He finds it hilarious that windshields on a Wrangler are a yearly wear item

Is it a yearly wear item for JK's, or for ALBERTA JK's?

Doesn't help that the windshield is nearly vertical, rocks don't deflect off that easily...

Replaced the shocks on the Smurf today. Went with the KYB brand. Replaced the shock mounts and bumpstops while I was in there.
Took most of the day as I had to compress the springs.

Did you order them from Rock-Auto? My Volt is 143K kms, I'm slowly starting to think about KYB for replacement shocks ...

Feels a lot better and a bit lower. I previously had  a set of 2nd generation miata shocks and springs. The only trouble with that setup is that it raises ride height a bit. Before that Koni 's,they were wore out and rough as hell. This new setup is basically stock putting it back to where it was from the factory. Getting old and want a smoother ride. :-\

I bought the KYB shock mounts from Rock- Auto. They didn't have the front shocks in stock so I ordered all the shocks and bumpstops from Wrench Monkey , a Canadian part site.

I chose KYB as they are Japanese made and didn't here good things about Monroe.

Thanks for the hints about Monkey wrench. I wasn't aware KYB were made in Japan. Monroe was out of my wish list.

Another vote for KYB....Good OE style replacement stuff without blowing the budget. Previous owner put a set of KYBs on the Corvette jut before I bought it and I have no complaints.
