Took the Z3M for a short ride down to the beach after taking it out of hibernation.  Started up first pull.   ;D  Needs a new set of sneakers though.  The rears are down to less than 3mm, and I found a screw stuck in the rear driver side.

Looks like a lovely day.

It's cool but a good day to check heater operation and heated seats.  ;D

Nice!! I've been cruising in the SLK with the roof down for the past 2 weeks since I got it out of storage... weather has been great & with the seat heaters & air scarf can drive in much cooler temps topless.

I came home from golf last night with the roof down & it was around +16ºC and that was plenty warm enough, even cruising ~120 on the hwy.

Isn't an XKR driver supposed to have a pastel sweater tied around them?  :rofl2:

I only once remember being too cold to drive top down and that was the final drive last fall.  Both the S2000 and Z3M have excellent heating and the heated seats in the Z are a nice bonus.  The air-scarf feature would be the cats ass!

I once got passed on the highway in late fall by an elderly couple driving top down in a Jag XJS and the old guy driving was wearing a scarf that was trailing out behind by at least 3 feet.  ;D

Edit:  Also had the summers put back on the Frontier today.  Had it booked for an oil change anyway so i got them to throw the summers on as they are heavy as hell for me to deal with.  I'll do the changeover on the GS-350 myself as the 18s on them are a lot more manageable than the 16s on the Frontier.   :P  I actually prefer changing them over myself as it gives me a chance to check things over all around.

Got new shoes installed on the Outlander - Michelin CrossClimate 2.

Given the aggressive looking tread, they are pretty smooth and quiet at any speed.

Brake job all around next.

What did you do to your car today?
« Reply #14473 on: April 16, 2021, 07:19:59 pm »
I've been having some issues with the Yukon throwing a bunch of ABS and Service Stabilitrak warnings. Used to only happen on really bad roads (washboard gravel and huge potholes), but lately it's been happening on smaller bumps, too.

Looked into it a bit online and suspected a wheel-speed sensor, but didn't really want to get too deep into it. Figured it would be easier just to drive around the potholes.

Anyway, took a peek while I was doing the tire changeover yesterday, and found that one of the ABS sensor cables was missing its mounting bracket, the cable was free and flopping around, and the insulation was worn through to the point that there were bare wires exposed. Well, that might explain things.

I just sealed it up with some old liquid electrical tape I had in the garage and fixed it to the mounting point with some zip ties. I think it will be fine for now, but I may have to touch it up again with each seasonal tire changeover. A new cable is only $60, but from what I can see, I think the caliper and rotor have to come off to replace it. I guess I'll do it if I have to, but would rather not if I can avoid it...

Changed from the winter tires to the new all-seasons.  Took it for a car wash.

They make the car.

They're also quite a bit lighter than the winters + steelies.

Rear suspension on the DTS uses a pair of lateral links to with a ball joint type end the goes into the big rear control arms....Boot on the ball joint bit was split on the right rear, and replacing the entire link is a bear of a job (requires moving the gas tank to get access to a bolt + an alignment). The boot just recently split, and the joint itself was still good, I also had a few random ball joint boots left over from another job that looked sorta the same size, so I popped the joint out of the control arm, pulled the old boot off and matched it up with one of my spares. Cleaned all the old grease out of the joint, slipped the new boot on, filled it with grease using a needle attachment on my grease gun, and put everything back together. Perfect.  $0 fix and only took about an hour and a half (including getting the wheel on/off, cleaning up, etc).

Replaced the front rotors and pads. Had to replace a caliper too and I got one in a rush from my local PartSource (in fact I decided to replace both).

It's a Centric rebuild. It fit OK, came with all hardware and it looks pretty well with some sort of coating (not sure how log will last but at this point don't look past a year or so).

Thinking to replace the rears as well and probably Centric too. Anyone here used Centric remanufactured calipers before?
