Car is out of the garage and both it and the dog got a quick rinse (both could use a full bath!)

that car is one of the ultimate "I like driving for fun" cars out there

lexus had a seasonal tire switch over.

while doing it, inspected all the axles, boots, brakes etc.
bearing carrier/hub is so rusty, had to wirebrush the rust off, and sprayed some "Fluid Film" on all 4 hubs.
nothing else is rusty, but caliper and hub was pretty bad.  i know it's "surface rust" since the carriers are super beefy, but it's disheartening to see so much of it in just ..5 year old car, and a toyota at that.

hopefully the fluid film works as well as all the youtube says it does.  1 can did all 4 hubs and still have some left.

also did an oil change on the lexus.  5 qt of mobil1's finest 0w-20.:)  supposed to last 16000 km, and i did let it go that long until now, since i've been going to dealer for it, but will be doing it at every 12k km from now, or 10 if i feel like it.

stupid filter cover would not come off using my standard strap style filter tool, so had to order toyota specific one on amazon.  15$.

a peculiar thing i noticed, there's 2 coolant reservoirs under the hood.  by the hoodlatch is apparently the turbo intercooler coolant.  by the hood strut is the engine coolant.

engine coolant was way low.  i didn't see any leaks under the hood, or anything, i don't smell anything strange when i start it, no  noticeable amount of smoke, or any coolant mixed in the engine oil.. so i don't know where it went...
on very cold start, on my steep drive way, maybe some overflows out of the reservoir?  it does have overflow port on the back side of the coolant tank, and i think the fluid might reach it when parked.

anyway, had to go get a bottle of "toyota" pink coolant and filled it up.  hopefully nothing serious.

Driving thrills makes my wallet lighter.. and therefore makes me faster because i'm shedding weight... :D

Some engines eat a little coolant, if it is constantly getting.low I would worry.

Nice detailed report.

Nice!

For my Jag, I booked it in for spark plug replacement. I also started chatting with Velocity Automotive Performance. Some goodies inbound for Bagheera...

I cleaned the inside of the Highlander yesterday. It desperately needed it since we basically camped out of it every Saturday and Sunday for the entire winter.  It cleans up nicely, though I am going to borrow my neighbours professional cleaning equipment. I love the look of lighter interiors, but with two kids and a dog, there's no way to keep it clean.

And today I swapped out the winters on both cards.  For some reason all of the studs (and hence nuts) were covered in grease.  I cleaned all of them with a degreaser and will have a word with my shop.  Both cars drive much nicer on the summer tires.  Surprisingly the 17" P7 Plus' on the Golf ride better than the 15" Blizzak's.

Probably for rust. I put a bit of copper slip on the wheel studs every few years. Theoretically it screws up the torque a bit, but I've never had a problem when tightening by hand. Sure beats seizing

Took the CRV with the soft brake pedal for a run around the block and checked the brake disc temp after, looks like it is a seized caliper, thanks y'all for the tip:

Will have a look when I change wheels and see if it can be freed up easily

It does seem like it was a copper anti seize.  I'd assumed anything on the threads is a no-no.

Anti seize can be sometimes used, also some oil protectant 9f the lug nuts is not a bad idea. They can easily get rusted, swollen, and need to be replaced over one or two winters. Can be expensive.

When the manufacturer gives a torque spec for the lug nuts, that’s almost always for dry threads. If you use lube or anti-seize, that torque spec goes out the window.

my ordered car for my wife has been moved to D status! means it has a VIN and *should* be getting built! fingers crossed we'll have it in time for a trip she is doing in the summer...

replacing her renegade... i never loved the car, but really, it wasn't a bad machine at all for what she was using it for. i grew to appreciate it for what it was.
i used to be addicted to soap, but i'm clean now

Took the Z3M for a short ride down to the beach after taking it out of hibernation.  Started up first pull.   ;D  Needs a new set of sneakers though.  The rears are down to less than 3mm, and I found a screw stuck in the rear driver side.
