Not sure why I'm hitting the size limit for images (originals are ~3 mb each).

Also, note to admin: not sure if these posts should be in the Tire and Wheel section. If so, please move them.

Well that sucks.  If I were you I'd contact a rim restoration shop and see if they can fix the original one and how much that would be.  If it's not repairable or if it's too expensive I would go with a used/remanufactured one.  Last resort would be getting a new one from dealer as I'm sure that will be the most pricy option.

Hopefully your wife learned a valuable lesson about flat tires and that the best thing she could have done was find the closest safe place to pull over and call for help.  Had she done that the rim might have been completely fine.

Thank you.

She did this a few days ago as well. At that time, she stopped soon after hitting the curb, so there was just a minor scratch on the wheel. I had the tire replaced at the dealer and asked about refinishing. They quoted $150. Not sure what they'll say this time, considering the damage is more extensive.

Looks like a new wheel is $540:
https://parts.lexus.com/p/Lexus_2017_ES-350/WHEEL---DISC/70528397/4261106G70.html

I think that is a wrong wheel but who knows... best to look inside the original and see if there is a code.

So she did this twice in a few days?

Think she was at my local coffee shop as I saw an ES drive over the curb today.  ;D

^^ Ouch. Still, making it that far without any major repairs is pretty good. Do you really have any choice but to replace the seal? Shouldn’t drive it like that, and resale value will be killed if you try to sell it that way.

Just curious, but how old was the PCV valve? I know they’re expensive to replace on these cars, but still a good idea to change them out as preventative maintenance. They’ve been known to take out the RMS if they fail.

Make sure to take that odometer pic when she rolls over 300k and post it here for us!

The car has been quite reliable so no complaints but it still sucks. Think I had only 1 warranty claim around 40K or 50K and I had the intake replaced/carbon cleaning, otherwise normal maintenance from what I can remember.

Original PCV valve so who know if that was the culprit.

Still trying to decide what to do. If dropping the engine, that would be the time to replace other things that could/will go over the next year or two. More money. Timing chain? Why not if the engine is already out. Just seems to keep adding up more and more with each item. Then how long will my turbo last? More money.

Car will be worth little like this but 2009's aren't going for big money either. I'm thinking a well kept high mileage 2009 would be around $7-8K at most? So the cost of repair would come close to the what I could sell it for IF it was in top condition which mine isn't thanks to some battle scars.

I've started browsing used cars to see what is out there. Really don't feel like spending $40K on a new car right now.

Thought of that. Autotrader has zero new wagons listed in Ontario so unless there is some dealer hiding one, think they may be all gone.

I'm torn as we have been driving the GTI for 12 years and still love it but maybe it is time for something different. Lots of great 2-3 year old cars out there for $25K.

Lots of new ones out here still, but all mid level trim and up, and dealers want sticker, low 30's and up. Seems rich for 2019 models

Plenty of low mileage 2019 used wagons for around 20, but usually ex rentals

You could get into a 2017 GTI for that price range with ~65k km.  I think you'd like the Mk7.

Considering you got 12 years out of your current GTI I don't see why you wouldn't just get one of the new ones coming out.  Sure it's $40K but with how long you drive them you certainly get your moneys worth out of them.

What about the V60? or V90. Used values are reasonable.

I love the 4motion sportwagen 3 years in (I should do a update) but something different is alluring for sure.

Volvo has pretty design. V90 is one sexy longroof.
