^^^Because it's so boring to drive it puts you to sleep?

 :run:

 :rofl2:

I actually rather like it, but I forgot how terrible diesels feel for the first few minutes after a cold start.

Sounds like you need a remote start so you can let it warm up for a bit before you get in and drive.

FGCs aren't known for remote starters. It's one of the things I miss most about my last Yukon, and is just about a requirement for my daily, given the amount of time I spend in northern Ontario (as far north as Timmins and Kapuskasing on a regular basis)...

A remote start is pointless for diesels. They don't make enough heat at idle to warm up.  And idling, especially when cold, is hard on the emissions systems.

They also take a lot longer to warm up. On a cold day the oil temperature in the Golf would never reach operating temperature if I was stuck in traffic. Like, ever.  Once under load they warm up fast.

My Golf came with an inline coolant heater that makes a big difference on cold starts and getting heat into the cabin.

Only advantage with the remote start when I had the diesel JGC was that it would turn on the seat heaters, steering wheel heater & the front & rear defrost. So after sitting outside overnight it was nice to have all of that going & clearing off the vehicle.

That makes sense.

The only time I'll idle the Golf is to use the electric heater to defrost the front windshield.

Yeah I thought my golf had some sort of electric heater as it would blow hot air very quickly.

Also you need to wait for the glow plugs to warm up for a few seconds before starting still don't you? Not sure if a remote system would do this.

If it has push button start then a remote start should work fine.

Not on my Jag  :rofl2:

$140k car, no remote start. 2016 models had it through an app...but 2015? Get in your car and start it yourself!

Apparently it has to do with the way the keyless remotes work.

Oh well, I do not care honestly. Never had remote start in a car before anyways.

Now drives a Jaaaaaaag...and thus will not pay for anything during an outing...but it is OK, because....I drive a Jaaaaaag.

Went to drive the Cayenne, totally dead battery, wife forgot lights on last night :P

Get in truck, hasn't been started in about 2 weeks, totally dead battery.  Battery charger won't even acknowledge it's hooked up, (AGM Kirkland, looks like 2018 date on it)  :(

Some Noco chargers will charge batteries from 0%.

Yep.

Have a NoCo. If the battery is dead as a nail, it won't charge in normal safe mode.

You have to take it out of safe and it will charge.
How fast is my 911?  Supras sh*t on on me all the time...in reverse..with blown turbos  :( ...

I tried with my newer CTeK,  tried frozen battery setting and recondition setting as well as regular charging.

Will try my dumb Mastercraft one tomorrow, or try the parallel battery thing as PJ mentioned.    Or maybe, see if the one out of the Subaru fits if all else fails.

The old-school mastercraft unit will charge it, leave it on long enough to get a few volts in it and then swap over to one of the smart chargers. That, or if you have a running car, hook up the booster cables and let the running car run for ~15 minutes or so. That'll be enough to put a surface charge on the dead battery so the 'smart' charger will kick on when you connect it.

What I like about trucks: you can reverse over 2' high snow banks to deliver a heavy treadmill right to the door of your cousin's new house.  My skid plates did a pretty good job of flattening the snowbank, lol.

Blank link... but yeah. The 11 is boring, so I typically do the 144, which is at least curvy and somewhat scenic. Gets downright sketchy in the winter months, though... so you guys see my "need" (want) for a Yukon.
