Drove the Volvo C30 home after 15 days sitting in GM's media lot. It seems to have developed a bit of belt squeal on cold start-up...

But darn, this thing drives, feels and sounds great.

There is an incredible smoothness and solidity to these cars - and yeah, the 5-cylinder burble is fun!

You may have mentioned this before, but did your friend do the timing belt before you bought it from him?

I... don't know to be honest. Also don't really care to drop a dollar into maintenance; I need this thing to run well for a month or two until my new truck comes, then it's been dibs'd by a friend for his kid who just got a driver's license. I know it had a fresh oil change a couple hundred kilometres before, and that's about it.

You might want to look into it - if it fails it's good-bye engine.  Even if you are not concerned, you might want to give your buddy who has ‘dibs’ on it a heads up.  These are interference engines.  Timing belt should be changed at 100,000 miles or 10 years.

C30? I've been away for too long! Wondering about daughter's Accent, alone in a business park 45 mins away since Dec. 14th. Wasn't planned, but fleets shut down as per gvt orders so I ended up with a month-long loan of the CX-5.

Nice. If fleets shut down, shouldn't you guys have just, you know, dropped them off? It's what we did here in March when the first shutdown happened.

YMMV. Fleets shut down three days into the loan, responses probably varied depending on manufacturer / fleet operator. In Mazda's case, they did not want any vehicles out front for weeks -open lot in a business park. BTW, picking-up a Tahoe on Monday - hoping I'll get the diesel to report to you on soundproofing!

The diesels aren't on the fleet yet; the Tahoe you get will be a Z71 5.3 or a High Country 6.2. Production for Canadian-destined diesels started on Dec 21. I had a 6.2 Suburban High Country over the holidays and it was lovely.

Canadian press fleets will be getting the diesels within a month or so, early to mid February.

No still runs like a top and will yet. Thinking of going a bit newer. Maybe a Tacoma with a good frame. Maybe 4WD but i don't need it. The fun is in the looking.

I also become attached to my old junk and don't want to part with it. I am torn  :-\

Drives my wife nuts. She will believe it when it is in the driveway.

This is the early 2000s frontier right? manual?

If that's the case let me know when you're ready to get rid of it... I might be interested by that point. I've moved back out east so hopefully the bubble is back by then...

No it's a 98. It is by no means  a mint truck. It is however been well maintained by me since I have owned it and has been reliable.

It is a 2WD  manual,so not really sought after.

took my wife's renegade in just to give it a drive and hit 40000kms... for a 2015, pretty damn low. she is still happy with it, so i guess i get to get another new one before she does! feel bad since i have bought 3 jeeps and the jag since the time i got her this one... but again, i actually drive. at 45k on my latest jeep, and have ordered two for myself...

whats the consensus... keep saving the stick, or wait for the 4xe to arrive with the turbo and plug in option? i put my name on two jeeps, nearly identical save that *minor* part.. heh.

In QC the PHEV is a no-brainer, the rebate puts it at par with the V6 on msrp. Plus, more torque and much less fuel use. So in QC the PHEV is a no-brainer. Given your turnover rate, I'd give the plug-in a shot and cash the federal rebate to cover the home charger install.

Took a quick peek under the hood today after a car wash. Looks like I have an oil filter housing leak.

So oil pan and oil filter housing are leaking / seeping. Nice. Typical BMW. Time to trade it?

I've never seen seepage as being a big issue, especially on a car that's more than a few years old.

Every time we've taken our CRV in to the dealership for a recall they want to fix all the little seeps and charge us an arm and a leg

They've been like that for a decade on that vehicle, don't make a puddle on the floor, I tell them to calm down

Did change an oil pressure sender on the Vibe last winter but they leak like crazy when they go (likely a diaphragm)

A bit of seepage isn’t usually too big a deal, but is that a crack?

Slow time of year for car stuff...

Escalade developed a rim leak (corrosion at the bead), would leak down 10-15psi overnight, so I took it into the mechanic that I use for stuff like this. Later that day, used the DTS to go pickup the week's presser (which happens to be an Escalade) and on the way home, the DTS blows out a brake line. I limp it home and find that it's one of the main lines from the master cylinder to the ABS pump. Of course, it's in a super tight area too...

Next morning, I limped the DTS to the mechanics and picked up the Escalade with the leaky rim repaired. The burst brake line is a hard line, but it has a couple flexy sections built into it to cope with engine bay vibrations...well, those unique lines are no longer available through GM. So my guy was able to make a new section and splice it in (don't ask me how because looking at the area, I have no idea how he got in there to do it), but warned me that with the flexy section the line might be under undue stress, so it would be good to find an OE style replacement....So I am working on that.

On the DTS I also had a TPMS sensor replaced (dead battery in it) and the transmission fluid/filter changed (due based on kms). $400 all in, and the first time something's broken on it in the 2.5 years I've had it, so I guess I can't complain.

I thought manufacturers had to supply replacement parts for a few years after production, what happened to that?
Not enough profit in brake lines?  Take too long to need replacement?
